Chorro Grande Trail – Los Padres National Forest

Details Distance/ Gain: The hike is a 11-mile Out and back with about 3000 feet of gain.

Rating: Intermediate to advanced (mainly for distance and altitude).

Description: This is not a hike for first timers. This is a 3000-foot hike to the summit of Pine Mountain and is mostly exposed till about 6000 feet where you creep into some chaparral, massive boulders, and eventual pine trees. The climb is not easy but if you are good with distance and climbing and like a challenge this is the hike for you. Once we reach the top if we are lucky on a clear day, you can also see some of the Channel Islands from the ridge line.

Meet your leader: 8:00 A.M at the parking space across from the trail head.

Restrooms: There are none at the trail head.

Directions: GPS: 34.59904, -119.33563

Bring: Lots of water, snack/lunch, hiking poles and a camera. Good shoes with tread are a must. If the day is cool, bring an extra layer, in case it is windy the peak is at around 7,104 ft.

Adventure Pass: Not Required

Dogs: OK if well behaved.

Leader(s): Paul H

Trail statistics are approximate. For safety purposes always assume they are underestimated. But don’t be disappointed if they are overestimated. Bring more water and snacks than you think you’ll need.

Trail descriptions are based on previous hikes. Current conditions are unknown until arrival. Expect the unexpected and plan accordingly.
