UPDATE: Looks like there is a lot of interest for this. I’ve changed the date to Jan 5 to give me time to create a lesson plan and choose a good location/trail head, which is taking longer than planned due to trips out of town, the Woolsey fire burning down my outdoor classroom, scheduled routine surgery and the holidays
Due to high interest and class size the class/hike will be limited to VIP Club members only. If you see yourself being removed from event, that is the reason. See http://www.hikingwithdean.com for details
This is more of a poll than an event, for now. Is anyone out there interested in a GPS class? Final date is TBD — please RSVP YES even if you have any interest.
I get a lot of questions on the trail from GPS owners about GPS usage, but its difficult to give tutorials without stopping the entire group. I think some free classes would be a good thing. There may be an indoor part also.
If you don’t have a gps and just want to check them out in action before purchasing that’s ok too. If you are looking to purchase a gps these are my expert recommendations:
Garmin Etrex Touch 35 – https://amzn.to/2NftMgV
Garmin Oregon 700 – https://amzn.to/2Qu7tWQ
Garmin Montana 610 – https://amzn.to/2QpfKez
There is more to these devices than orienteering and I don’t think the orienteering outings I have seen are adequate. Feel free to post questions or comments in the comment section
