An introduction to backpacking, friendly for total beginners!

If this is your first trip, or your 5th trip, you are more than welcome to attend if you have an interest in working on any of the following:

  • How to choose a trail
  • How to prepare
  • How to use your gear
  • How to filter water
  • What foods work for you
  • Navigation basics
  • Situational awareness
  • Using a personal locator beacon
  • Leave No Trace practices
  • Building confidence
  • Testing gear
  • Having fun!

Trail:
This will be a single overnight, low mileage trip with a focus on building skills in the San Diego area.

Looking for interest and this trip will be scheduled at a time that best fits the needs of most.

Make sure you are in good enough physical shape for the distance, elevation changes, and terrain. The hike leaders in this group aren’t professional hike leaders. Trail statistics are approximate. For safety purposes always assume they are underestimated. But don’t be disappointed if they are overestimated. Bring more water and snacks than you think you’ll need.

Trail descriptions are based on previous hikes. Current conditions are unknown until arrival. Expect the unexpected and plan accordingly.
