THE RAZORBACK’S BOWL PEAK – Easier cross country route

The weather is much better up there now, so I’ve set this trek up there again.

BEFORE YOU WILL BE MOVED TO THE GOING LIST, YOU WILL NEED TO UPDATE YOUR CDH PROFILE (The three questions must be answered with a “yes”) IF YOU HAVE NOT ALREADY DONE SO.

Like others in our group, I just can’t get enough of this area. (it’s so unique and isolated).
PAST EVENT THERE via a much tougher route

Have you looked at our past events into the RAZORBACK ridge area of the Los Padres National Forest and wished you were able to enjoy this area but the events were for strong intermediate trekkers. Here’s a chance to gain the top of the RAZORBACK via its back door and look down into its bowl below (see picture of the bowl above). This route will be a much easier way to get there than what we have attempted in the past. Although this trek will be geared for our intermediate hikers that like an easier off trail hike, our stronger hikers will enjoy this as well. Just remember that it will be at a slow intermediate pace. It’s a long day for a short trek but so worth it.

I had our much stronger Friday hikers in mind when I created this easier excursion into The Los Padres National Forest.

MICRO SPIKES will make trekking there so much easier, especially if there’s still snow on the ground.

IF YOU HAVE TO BE BACK BY A CERTAIN TIME, PLEASE DON’T SIGN ON BECAUSE YOU MAY NOT MAKE YOUR APPOINTMENT.

MEETUP LOCATION AND TIME: meet us at 8:30 am. at The Flying J Truck Stop (42810 Frazier Mountain Park, Frazier Park)

After meeting here we will then caravan 25 minutes to the Razorback area to begin our adventure.

DISTANCE: 4 miles of 100% cross country trekking along a sandy stream bed and easy but steep ridge lines.
ELEVATION GAIN/LOSS: 900’/900′

THE PACE: No faster than the slowest Trekker

DURATION: I’d like to get back to the cars by 4:00 p.m. and stop off at Frazier Park for an optional debriefing in Frazier Park.

TERRAIN: Trails? We don’t need no stinking trails to do this! We’ll first follow an old road a bit before following a sandy ravine to the base of a ridge leading us up to the backdoor ridge to the bowl. All this may be snow covered.

LEVEL: Intermediate Trekker with off trail experience.

SUGGESTIONS: We most likely will encounter packed snow along the way, so bring trekking poles

POST HIKE DEBRIEFING: optional

NO DOGS ALLOWED

Make sure you wear a mask and practice CDC distancing guidelines.

Trail statistics are approximate. For safety purposes always assume they are underestimated. But don’t be disappointed if they are overestimated. Bring more water and snacks than you think you’ll need.

Trail descriptions are based on previous hikes. Current conditions are unknown until arrival. Expect the unexpected and plan accordingly.
