Sherwood Sentinals Overview – Gentler with Single Tracks

This hike starts at the corner of Potrero and Westlake Boulevard, and immediately crosses over into the Three Springs area over an empty streambed, past some old car parts and bug traps! We’ll climb up a single-track to a volcanic boulder-strewn ridgeline offering views of both Lake Eleanor and the Las Virgenes Reservoir. We will traverse three hills of a roller-coaster like landscape until we get to the soundwall behind the houses at Denver Springs Drive, where we’ll turn around and, avoiding the roller coaster climbs, make our way back. On the way, we’ll descend to Hillsbury Road and the “official” South Shore Open Space trailhead, in case you’re interested in coming back and revisiting this area without crossing a streambed.

I’ll talk a little about the short- and longer-term history of the area, not so much to interrupt the hike, but enough to amuse, hopefully.

This is a 4+ mile more-or-less out and back hike, with about 750′ of elevation gain.

NOTE: Please review the guidelines to participate in our hikes. Here are some highlights and a link to the guidelines:

Trail statistics are approximate. For safety purposes always assume they are underestimated. But don’t be disappointed if they are overestimated. Bring more water and snacks than you think you’ll need.

Trail descriptions are based on previous hikes. Current conditions are unknown until arrival. Expect the unexpected and plan accordingly.
