SENTINEL PEAK

BEFORE YOU WILL BE MOVED TO THE GOING LIST, YOU WILL NEED TO UPDATE YOUR CDH PROFILE (The three questions must be answered with a “yes”) IF YOU HAVE NOT ALREADY DONE SO

Since we are living in the age of Covid, I am limiting this event to a max of 10 people due to social distancing.

***Even if you are fully vaccinated you can still get the coronavirus and I expect everyone to follow the rules***

THESE ARE THE RULES:
1. You must follow all safety guidelines regarding Covid. This means 6-ft social distancing, and wearing a mask when passing others on the trail.
2. We hike as a group, and will not leave anyone behind.
3. Do not go ahead of the group if you do not know where to go.
4. Do not attend if you have to be back by a certain time.

Let’s contnue to bag some peaks in the front range of the San Gabriel Mountains.

Sentinel peak-a round top summit that offers 360-degree views and stands conspicuosly at the mouth of the San Gabriel canyon. Last time I visited this peak was during the spring time, after the rains and we were rewarded with lots of wildflowers and a array of colorful mushrooms.

We will be following an old fire road then head up a couple of steep firebreaks until we reach a saddle. After a short break continue our trek on a use path passing through a melon patch before ascending the final climb to the summit.

You must be comfortable with steep loose, rocky terrain. Gloves and poles are recommended.

****Please be aware that there will be some light bush-wacking and exposed areas along the trail. Please wear light colored clothing/long pants/long sleeve shirts due to brush and maybe ticks.****

Trail statistics are approximate. For safety purposes always assume they are underestimated. But don’t be disappointed if they are overestimated. Bring more water and snacks than you think you’ll need.

Trail descriptions are based on previous hikes. Current conditions are unknown until arrival. Expect the unexpected and plan accordingly.
