We haven’t done this hike in about 2 years and there are still a lot of wildflowers blooming in this big loop around Rancho Sierra Vista, so hopefully we will enjoy some of them, along with some pretty views of Boney Mountain.
We will meet at the trailhead parking area at the intersection of Wendy and Portrero Road. Please note this is different than the Parking Lot where we often meet. See directions below.
This will be a big loop throughout the upper mesa. We will take a brief break about 2/3 of the way through the hike at the only place where there is any shade and a few tables. It will be a little warmer than it has been on Thursday, so bring plenty of water, wide hat, sturdy shoes or boots and hiking poles if you favor them.
Total distance is roughly 6 miles, with about 1000′ of elevation gain.
Note that this is a gentler hike but not a beginner hike. It is a convoluted trail so I will mark it, but we will try to keep the group together.
Directions:
Take Highway 101 to Thousand Oaks. Exit at Wendy Drive. Go south (towards the ocean) on Wendy all the way until it dead ends at the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area. There is ample free parking on the dirt along the road. No restrooms.
Lunch Afterwards: Three Amigos on Reino Road in Newbury Park
