I’ll lead in with saying that this event is not an official Calabasas Day Hikers event, and I’m not the official host.
With Saturday being National Public Lands Day, I thought I’d take some hike time and spend it giving back to one of the areas our group uses most. It’s sponsored by one of our benefactors, the Santa Monica Mountains Fund. It’s local; the Rancho Sierra Vista is in Newbury Park. I’ve volunteered there a few times. The staff is great at explaining what the goal is that day and how to achieve it. A great experience, and it affords an understanding of the hard work needed to keep our natural areas well, natural. It also leaves you with a sense of accomplishment, and the staff will always appreciate your support.
Please follow this Eventbrite link:
There will be snacks (granola bars, etc.) and drinks. I recommend you bring your own so you know you have something you’ll eat.
I’ll also note that the event has it’s own COVID practices, so please follow those when you go. Whatever other rules, if you’re showing signs of COVID, please stay home and take care of yourself.
Weather: Mid-60s at start; mid-70s at end (as of Thursday at 8 PM). UV Index is 7, so bring sunscreen.
Parking: Free
Dogs: Not on this one
Water: They provide, but you might bring some. I carry a couple of liters in a pack so it’s always plentiful and nearby. It’s warm when you’re working under the sun.
Known hazards: Snakes, trip/fall (wear hiking boots to keep feet protected). Depending on where we work, maybe poison oak.
