I am spending the weekend in San Luis Obispo from Friday-Sunday (June 3-5) and you are invited to join me for two amazing hikes on California’s most beautiful coastline. You may want to stay a couple of nights, or just come up for the day for any of the hikes. If you plan to stay the weekend, you will need to find accommodations.

**Day 2 (Sunday)** Montero de Oro Bluff Trail
details below

**Day 1 (Saturday)** Pecho Trail to the Lighthouse
https://www.meetup.com/calabasasdayhikers/events/285214343/

Today’s hike is about 4 miles with an elevation gain of 229’, out and back.

Montaña de Oro, “Mountain of Gold” got its name from the golden wildflowers that bloom there in spring. The park is California’s Coastal National Monument, featuring rugged cliffs, secluded sandy beaches, coastal plains, streams, canyons, and hills. The water is turquoise blue, the waves dance, and the stones make music. Don’t believe it? Come and find out.

You can watch a video of Huell Howser visiting the very trail we will be hiking: [https://blogs.chapman.edu/huell-howser-archives/2002/08/12/montana-de-oro-huell-howser/](https://blogs.chapman.edu/huell-howser-archives/2002/08/12/montana-de-oro-huell-howser/)

We will meet at 10:00am at the trailhead and begin precisely at 10:15
We will spend quite a bit of time taking pictures, and exploring side trails, so expect the hike to last at least four hours.

After the hike, let’s grab a late lunch in Morro Bay. I will provide the restaurant later in the comments.

Trail statistics are approximate. For safety purposes always assume they are underestimated. But don’t be disappointed if they are overestimated. Bring more water and snacks than you think you’ll need.

Trail descriptions are based on previous hikes. Current conditions are unknown until arrival. Expect the unexpected and plan accordingly.
