Lang Ranch to Simi Peak – Intermediate Hike

UPDATE: Please review our guidelines to participate in our hikes. Here are some highlights and a link to the guidelines:
https://www.meetup.com/The-Weekday-Trailblazers/about/
Restrictions apply for your safety and ours:

  • Don’t show up unless you’re on the “Attending” list
  • No “Plus Ones” on this hike
  • Plan on completing the entire hike at a reasonable pace or please find an alternative hike that better suits your hiking level.
  • No dogs allowed.

The hike is an 8 mile out and back with 1800′ of elevation gain from Lang Ranch parkway to Simi Peak. Our route is principally on the Albertson Fire Road, which goes from the trailhead eastward all the way to Upper Las Virgenes Canyon, and is a favorite route for hikers and mountain bikers alike. We’ll turn off this hilly fire road after about three miles and head south for about one mile, on a single track trail, across China Flats and then up to the commanding views of 2400-foot Simi Peak.

The Albertson Fire Road is an especially scenic route in both directions, rising up above the Simi and Conejo Valleys and offering westward views of the Pacific and offshore islands. China Flats was the site of Back to the Future 3’s wild west scenes. At Simi Peak, we will enjoy breath-taking views of the Simi Valley, Conejo Valley, San Fernando Valley, Oxnard Plains, Pacific Ocean, and the Channel Islands.

This hike is exposed almost the entire way, and the sun has a way of sneaking up on you even on a temperate day. Bring plenty of water and portable shade.

Free on-street parking is available at the trailhead.

Directions:
Take the 101 toward Thousand Oaks. Exit at Westlake Boulevard and turn north (away from the ocean). Drive 4.1 miles and turn right on Lang Ranch Parkway. Continue 0.8 miles and park where the Lang Ranch Parkway makes a sharp left.

Trail statistics are approximate. For safety purposes always assume they are underestimated. But don’t be disappointed if they are overestimated. Bring more water and snacks than you think you’ll need.

Trail descriptions are based on previous hikes. Current conditions are unknown until arrival. Expect the unexpected and plan accordingly.
