Hike to Sitton Peak – Bear Canyon & Verdugo Truck Trail – Santa Ana Mountains

Let’s conquer Sitton Peak again! This peak is located in the Santa Ana Mountains in the Cleveland National Forest. The total mileage for this hike should be 9.5-10 miles with approximately 2,000′ of elevation gain. This will be an out and back.

This hike starts on the Bear Canyon Loop Trail, which takes us to the Verdugo Truck Trail, to the Sitton Peak Truck Trail. The last bit is a narrow and steep climb to the top. At the top you get great views of Mt. San Jacinto, San Gorgonio, and Santiago Peak.

The hike starts at the Ortega Oaks Candy Store.

For parking, this hike requires an Adventure Pass. You can purchase a day pass for $5 or an annual pass for $30. Here is a link of where you can purchase either the day/annual pass (please purchase beforehand, as you cannot purchase in the parking lot): http://www.fs.usda.gov/detailfull/r5/passes-permits/recreation/?cid=stelprdb5181410&width=full

Dogs are welcome on this hike.

If you have any questions before the hike, please feel free to ask.

Trail statistics are approximate. For safety purposes always assume they are underestimated. But don’t be disappointed if they are overestimated. Bring more water and snacks than you think you’ll need.

Trail descriptions are based on previous hikes. Current conditions are unknown until arrival. Expect the unexpected and plan accordingly.
