Hike Mt Waterman

Details
Distance/ Gain: The hike is a 6-mile loop with about 1200 feet of gain.

Rating: Moderate + (mainly for distance and altitude).

Description: Mt Waterman is better known as a ski area in the San Gabriel Mountains off Highway 2. It recently was hit by the Bobcat fire and is just now starting to recover. We will be hiking through the burn area then ascend to the ridge line. We will break for snaky time at the top nestled in between some bodies of igneous rock, with a lovely view of the Twin Peaks and the LA basin below. From that point it is all downhill via the fire road access back to the trail head.

Meet your leader: 7:15 A.M at the parking lot just before the Buckhorn Day Use Area, about 34 miles up the 2 from the junction of the 2 and the 210. (Adventure Pass required.)

Restrooms: There are some close to the parking area, as well as several other options as you travel up HWY 2.

Directions: Take the 210 to the 2 toward Palmdale (North) Trailhead is about 45 minutes from the 210.

Bring: Lots of water, snack/lunch, hiking poles and a camera. Good shoes with tread are a must. If the day is cool, bring an extra layer, in case it is windy.

Adventure Pass: Required

Dogs: Ok, if on a leash and well-behaved with other dogs / people.

Leader(s): Paul H

Trail statistics are approximate. For safety purposes always assume they are underestimated. But don’t be disappointed if they are overestimated. Bring more water and snacks than you think you’ll need.

Trail descriptions are based on previous hikes. Current conditions are unknown until arrival. Expect the unexpected and plan accordingly.
