From the Kanan Rd trailhead, we’ll jump on the Backbone Trail for a cruise down into Newton Canyon. On our way there, we’ll cross the creek, pass under an oak canopy, and come out into an opening. At the opening, look toward the sandstone formations in the distance, and you’ll see a trickle of water from Upper Newton Falls.

This is an out and back hike at a total of 5 miles, with 900′ total elevation gain.
This is a gentler hike. We will go at a more moderate pace than a regular Trailblazer hike, and we’ll take a break at our turnaround. The purpose is to give novice and intermediate hikers who may feel they’re not up to a regular hike a chance to get out and experience our beautiful trails. Faster hikers are welcome to come along, with the understanding that the hike is geared toward those who want to go at an easier pace.
