Hello Fellow Hikers,
It’s Halloween! What better hike to do then Devils Chair?! This trail is a fan favorite among hikers but unfortunately was devastated in the Bobcat fire and closed for a few years. It has finally reopened and what better day to hike it. Now a little about the trail….When you arrive at the fenced “Devil’s Chair”, you will walk out onto a peninsula of white crushed rock with a 250-foot drop-off. Look straight down from the chair and you will see a line which stretches up a ridge to your left. The pinkish Punchbowl sandstone curves up and ends at this line. The San Gabriel Mountains are being thrusted up behind you and the Punchbowl rocks are being dragged up with the mountains. As you look across the canyon below, you will see the Pinyon Fault, Pinyon Ridge and the San Andreas Fault. The notch in Pinyon Ridge is formed by Big Rock Creek. The Punchbowl Fault is one of the most studied faults in the world because it has so much surface exposure. Most faults are covered with sediment and can’t be seen. Carpooling at our same meetup spot will be offered for anyone who wishes to carpool or follow to the trailhead (Best donuts located 2325 Kuehner Dr # 127 Simi Valley off the 118 freeway at 7:30am) I have attached the AllTrails link for directions, stats and photos…https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/california/devils-chair-trail
