COSF Presents: “Oaks in Peril” with Kim Corella, forest pathologist w/ CAL FIRE

Conejo Open Space Foundation presents the live online presentation of “Oaks in Peril” with Kim Corella, forest pathologist with CAL FIRE.
Corella will explain the critical role oaks play as a keystone species and what the arrival of a new invasive beetle, the gold spotted oak borer, could mean for our community. She will teach you symptoms to look for and what you can do to fight this existential threat to our all-important oaks.

This is your chance to learn how to stop this potentially deadly invasive beetle from spreading further into our county.

Kim Corella holds a Masters of Science degree from Texas A&M University in plant pathology. She has served with CAL FIRE for 17 years and is currently with the Forest Entomology and Pathology Program for Southern California. She responds to and manages insects and disease matters on state and private lands in Southern California from Monterey County to San Diego.

The presentation will be Wednesday, April 16, at 7:00 pm, via Zoom. After the presentation, there will be a moderated Q & A session for attendees.

Trail statistics are approximate. For safety purposes always assume they are underestimated. But don’t be disappointed if they are overestimated. Bring more water and snacks than you think you’ll need.

Trail descriptions are based on previous hikes. Current conditions are unknown until arrival. Expect the unexpected and plan accordingly.
