BRIDGE TO NOWHERE (A WET AND WILD TREK)

This will be an all day wet and wild event for the water lovers in our group. Please don’t sign up if you melt when getting wet, because you’ll either get wet crossing or walking in the river. Not to mention one hell of a water fight will be taking place at the larger pools among all that sign on.

BRING THOSE WATER CANNONS AND RIVER SHOES.

This Wednesday it’s time to cool off, now that warmer weather is here, by trekking along the East Fork of the San Gabriel River to The Bridge to nowhere. The route there will require many river crossings. Most likely we’ll be getting our feet wet, so wear appropriate footwear for this. With all the cool water along the way, there’s no excuse for overheating on this trek. It’s much slower navigating along this river than our usual hikes that have trails. We’ll be rock hopping and scrambling when not on some kind of trail. There are several “use” trails, many of them marked with cairns. While there is no “correct” route, they all do go to the same place, so we’ll just keep trying to follow the river. Bring more water than you normally would bring for a 10 mile hike, since it will be very warm in the canyon. I most likely will be staying cool by the WWW constantly splashing river water on me or submerging in pools as needed.

MEETUP DATE AND TIME: Wednesday March 16th at 7:00 a.m.

MEETUP LOCATION: Those out my way can meet me in Woodland Hills at 7:00 a.m. and take off from there in a car pool. Meet at the corner of Leonora Dr. and Ponce Avenue. Ponce Ave. is the first street east of Fallbrook. We can park on Ponce which is not in front of any homes.

ALTERNATE MEETUP LOCATION: If interested in doing this event but our meetup location won’t work for you, then meet us at the trailhead. From the Azusa Ave/CA-39 exit off the 210, head north for 11.8 miles, then turn right onto East Fork Road. In 3.3 miles, stay to the right to keep on East Fork Road and in 1.9 miles make a sharp left onto Camp Bonita Road. This road ends at the trailhead. I’ll meet you there at 8:30 a.m. ONLY IF YOU LET ME KNOW THAT YOU WILL BE THERE. Be patient since I will be fighting traffic getting there.

Trail statistics are approximate. For safety purposes always assume they are underestimated. But don’t be disappointed if they are overestimated. Bring more water and snacks than you think you’ll need.

Trail descriptions are based on previous hikes. Current conditions are unknown until arrival. Expect the unexpected and plan accordingly.
