🚘 Back to the Future Hike at China Flat (& Simi Peak) – Lunch at Lamppost Pizza

On this one, Marty McFly will be taking us to China Flat, the 1885 location of the Seamus McFly farm, Boothill Cemetary and the Delgado Mine. Seamus was/is/will-be Marty’s great-great-grandfather. DeLoreans are no longer allowed on the trail so this will be a little strenuous.

We’re heading back to the future in more ways than one. We did this hike almost a year ago, just after the Woolsey fire. You can view those pics here: It will be interesting to see the recovery progress.

The trail to China Flat is a difficult one, but makes an excellent introduction to the Simi Hills, with its awesome sandstone skyscrapers towering over flatland neighborhoods. The “flat” in China Flat is a splendid plateau carpeted with emerald green grass and covered by oak savannas.

We’ll do a loop around China Flat, visit a vernal pond and poke around some artifacts artifacts from a bygone era. Along the way we will ascend to Simi Peak, the highest peak in the Simi Hills at 2,405 ft.

Here are photos from January 2019

Hike will be a loop of appx. 8.5 miles with about 2200′ total ascent

Trail statistics are approximate. For safety purposes always assume they are underestimated. But don’t be disappointed if they are overestimated. Bring more water and snacks than you think you’ll need.

Trail descriptions are based on previous hikes. Current conditions are unknown until arrival. Expect the unexpected and plan accordingly.
