5 Year – Hike and Picnic celebration

**[Fit Beginner, 3.3 mi, 500′ gain](https://www.meetup.com/Hiking-Plus/messages/boards/thread/50879781)**
**Easy Option: 1/2 mi, flat**

We’ve formed a lot of strong bonds since this group was started and it has served its purpose well. Let’s get together to celebrate this.

This is the famous [Corriganville Park](http://www.rsrpd.org/simi_valley/trails/cooriganville_movie_ghost_town.php), previously the Corriganville Movie Ranch. This is not only a great place for hiking, but there are picnic tables, barbecues, drinking fountains, and bathrooms. It’s also quite historic.

If you have not been to Corriganville Park, you are in for a treat. It used to be a film studio ranch. There are many placards on posts in the ground with notable facts and photos from movies filmed here. Part of the park is like hiking through an old western motion picture, with dramatic rock formations. Parts of Tarzan were also filmed here. Estimates of the number of movies and television shows filmed there range from the hundreds to the thousands.

**Easy Option.** 1/2 mile, flat.
Skip the hike. Walk to the opposite end of the parking lot from which you entered, and continue for 1/4 mile to the pavilion. Bring your potluck items.

**Potluck and Hike**
We’ll hike first. You can either leave your stuff in the car, or carry it with you for the first 1/4 mile flat segment of the hike, dropping it off at the pavilion as we pass it, assuming we’ll have some that are just going to wait at the pavilion and not hike, as is usually the case.

At this point, you can skip the rest of the hike and wait at the pavilion, or you can continue.

This hike is a series of segments and turns that cover most of the park. There will not be any extended inclines, but the total hike will have about 500′ of gain and there will be 3 small hills (75 – 125 steps, each). This will be fine for beginners but it will get the blood pumping.

The route planned has many turns and junctions. I may mark the direction periodically with small lines of white powder, else there will be enough of a crowd to see where we are going. I’ll modify the route as needed if it’s too hot outside.

The hike will eventually bring us back to our cars. If needed, gather your potluck items. The hike will then continue again, repeating the first segment of 1/4 mile on flat ground, to our social spot at the covered pavilion.

If the pavilion is taken by another group, we’ll just move over to one of the many picnic areas close by.

Trail statistics are approximate. For safety purposes always assume they are underestimated. But don’t be disappointed if they are overestimated. Bring more water and snacks than you think you’ll need.

Trail descriptions are based on previous hikes. Current conditions are unknown until arrival. Expect the unexpected and plan accordingly.
