WWW ADVENTURE AT BIG BEAR LAKE – Hike to Grand View Point and Kayaking

A VERY SHADY TRAIL AND KAYAKING TO BEAT THE HEAT

Join me and some WWW members if you would like to spend all day at Big Bear Lake with us experiencing the fun that our Wednesday events offer. We’ll start out with a 7 mile In and Out hike to Grand View Point via the Pine Knot Trail with a 1160′ gain/loss. Pack a lunch to be enjoyed at Grand View Point. After the hike we’ll have a little WWW fun on the lake with Kayaks which we’ll be renting at Paddles and Pedals. Of course, if you know anything about the WWW, you know you will be getting wet. Therefore, bring a change in clothing and your secret water weapon.
The Paddles and Pedals rentals are $35/1 hour and $50/2 hours for 2 person Kayak. Plan on 2 hours if the hike doesn’t take too long to do and the wind is calm.

DEBRIEFING: Plan on having dinner there after the lake fun.

If you have to be somewhere later that day, don’t commit to this. This event will be over when it’s over.

MEETUP TIME, LOCATION AND DIRECTIONS: Take the 134 Fwy east and exit Harvey Dr. heading south. Make a right on E. Wilson Ave. followed immediately by a right into the Park And Ride there. Whether you meet at an earlier location or not, you’ll all be required to meet at our caravan location at the park and ride in Glendale. We’ll all meet there at 6:00 a.m. and fill up as few cars as possible. Those that don’t drive can help pay for gas.

EARLIER MEETUP LOCATION: Those out my way can meet me in Woodland Hills at 5:30 a.m. and take off from there in a car pool. Meet at the corner of Leonora Dr. and Ponce Avenue. Ponce Ave. is the first street east of Fallbrook. We can park on Ponce which is not in front of any homes. We can load the cars up here, since there isn’t a car shuttle involved on this event.

FINAL MEETUP LOCATION: Pine Knot Trailhead 8:00 am

ELEVATION GAIN/LOSS: 1160’/1160’

DISTANCE: 7 miles

TERRAIN: Single track

EXPERIENCE LEVEL: Intermediate hiker capable of hiking 7 miles in the 7000′ to 8000′ range.

ADVENTURE PASS: May be required at the trailhead.

Trail statistics are approximate. For safety purposes always assume they are underestimated. But don’t be disappointed if they are overestimated. Bring more water and snacks than you think you’ll need.

Trail descriptions are based on previous hikes. Current conditions are unknown until arrival. Expect the unexpected and plan accordingly.
