SYCAMORE CANYON TO LA JOLLA CANYON via Scenic, Overlook and Ray Miller Trails

We’ll start out by meeting outside the La Jolla Campground on PCH. From there we’ll take on a 2 mile car shuttle to Sycamore Campground. This hike will start out very steep out of Sycamore Canyon following either The Scenic Trail or a use trail and The Overlook Trail until we’ve reached The Ray Miller Trail. Along the way we’ll enjoy sweeping views of the ocean below.

MEETUP LOCATION AND TIME: We’ll all meet initially outside the La Jolla Campground on PCH just south of the entrance (Ray Miller Trailhead) at 8:00 am.

EARLIER MEETUP LOCATION AND TIME: Those out my way can meet me at the Thousand Oaks Park and Ride at the corner of Rancho Rd. and Haaland Dr. NO LATER THAN 7:15 a.m. It’s just south of the 101 Fwy and 23 Fwy interchange.
Have a full tank of gas and be willing to drive if needed. Those that don’t drive can help pay for gas ($5/person). It’s about a 40 minute drive to our final destination.

MEETUP PARKING FEE: $8.00 in paved lot, or free parking on the south side shoulder on PCH. Pay close attention to parking signs on PCH.

CAR SHUTTLE: From the La Jolla Campground Parking Area, we’ll fill up as few cars as possible and head south on the PCH for less than two miles.

AFTER HIKE AND CAR SHUTTLE: Those interested in cooling your feet down after the hike can walk to the beach with me before heading either home or to the optional debriefing lunch at Neptune’s Net.

LUNCH DEBRIEFING OPTION: After the hike we can debrief at Neptune’s Net.

Trail statistics are approximate. For safety purposes always assume they are underestimated. But don’t be disappointed if they are overestimated. Bring more water and snacks than you think you’ll need.

Trail descriptions are based on previous hikes. Current conditions are unknown until arrival. Expect the unexpected and plan accordingly.
