Spring Canyon to Space Mountain – a new route for us! Intermediate

Please note the new location!

We’ll meet at Lynn Oaks Park in Thousand Oaks, and access Space Mountain through Spring Canyon, a route that our group has never before taken. We’ll climb up the Space Mountain switchbacks, and then enjoy a pleasant walk at elevation until we get to the private, gated stretch of Ventu Park Road, where we’ll turn around, though hardier hikers are welcome to continue to Angel Vista and back.

Distance of hike, as described, is 7 miles. Elevation gain/loss is right around 1,100′, though GaiaGPS incorrectly claims that it is closer to a half mile 🙁

Please:

  • If you can’t make the hike, change your RSVP soon enough for someone on the waitlist to take your place!
  • If you’ve double-booked hikes at the same time, change your RSVP, ditto!

Directions:
From the east, exit 101 at Lynn Road, and drive 0.8 miles southwest. Take a left turn (south) onto Capitan Street.

From the west, exit 101 at Ventu Park, drive south. Turn left onto Lynn, and drive 0.6 miles to turn right (south) onto Capitan Street.

Drive 0.2 miles to the park, on the right. Park your car near the children’s playground. This is a quiet residential area, so walk up away from the street before conversing loudly with your fellow hikers.

Trail statistics are approximate. For safety purposes always assume they are underestimated. But don’t be disappointed if they are overestimated. Bring more water and snacks than you think you’ll need.

Trail descriptions are based on previous hikes. Current conditions are unknown until arrival. Expect the unexpected and plan accordingly.
