Saturday in the Santa Monica Mountains 2025 #5 – Calabasas Peak Red Rock

Hike #5 in the 2025 Saturdays in the Santa Monica Mountains series is a strenuous hike of about 11 miles with 2500 gain to Red Rock Canyon with a side trip to Calabasas Peak on the way and lunch at Zuniga Pond, one of the more beautiful settings in the Santa Monica Mountains.

Bring water, snacks, sunscreen, and a good attitude. Rain, excessive heat, or Red Flag alert cancels.

Meet at 8:00 am at the Secret Trail (Google Map calls the trailhead the Oak Ridge Trail Calabasas Peak). To get to the trailhead: From PCH: Take Malibu Canyon Road 6.5 miles to Mulholland Highway. Turn right and continue 5.8 miles to the signed trailhead on the right. Park in the pullouts alongside the road. From 101 freeway: Exit on Las Virgenes Road. head 3.1 miles south to Mulholland Highway. Turn left and continue 5.8 miles to the signed trailhead on the right. Park in the pullouts alongside the road. Please carpool, parking is limited.
