This route is pretty dry. If we get a deluge, I may consider cancelling, but otherwise it’s a go!
This loop / lollipop hike starts at the parking area in Hill Canyon. We’ll cross the bridge over the creek, and meander a mile before turning onto the Hawk Canyon Trail, through the notch alongside the creek, to the Edison Road, up the hill to the Peninsula Trail, around Canyon View, past Volcanics and Elliott Peak trail, back down to the creek, and back out to the cars. We will take a few breaks along the way to wait for everyone to catch up. Here’s the GaiaGPS details.
We’ll see lots of brown hills and meadows. On Sunday, when I pre-hiked this route, there were actually a few wildflowers left in bloom amidst the tumbleweeds. This will be a good opportunity to establish a “before” picture in your mind, in hopes of a beautiful “after” the coming rains.
I generally spray my hat and legs with bug repellent on this hike – YMMV. Also, we may hike over a wet spot on the trail along the creek.
