San Luis Obispo to Pismo Beach to Avila Beach Coastal Views Loop

We start at the San Luis Obispo Public Market and take mostly generous bike lanes 10 miles to Pismo Beach. In Pismo we take a leisurely ride along the boardwalk and pier and then head up the coast. We detour onto the bike trails at Dinosaur Caves Park and then enjoy the scenic coastal vistas along several different ocean edge roads, parks and walkways. At the 17 mile mark we ride the paved Shell Beach Bluff Trail with a view below of Pirates Cove. We take a shortcut to Avila Beach on a challenging (Elaine approved) paved/not paved road. In Avila Beach we take a short break and then proceed out of town on the paved Bob Jones Bike Trail and then ride back to our cars on wide bike lane roads.
Make sure you bring along a spare inner tube.

Trail statistics are approximate. For safety purposes always assume they are underestimated. But don’t be disappointed if they are overestimated. Bring more water and snacks than you think you’ll need.

Trail descriptions are based on previous hikes. Current conditions are unknown until arrival. Expect the unexpected and plan accordingly.
