Space Mountain is the name for Los Robles Trail West, starting at Moorpark Road in Thousand Oaks and switchbacking up the hill to the west. No one seems to know why it’s called Space Mountain, though maybe the Disney ride inspired it. Maybe former major league pitcher Bill “Spaceman” Lee had something to do with it. Maybe it’s the final frontier. Come out and throw your equally ludicrous guess into the ring.
We will hike to the fireroad just after the new section…and you can opt to go up to Angel Vista for the views. If you go all the way, you will hike just under or over 8 miles total with about 1350’ of gain. I may not make it all the way…I’m nursing a post-operative hand. If you turn around at the fireroad, it will be shorter and less gain. Duh. If you don’t know the way, stay with me.
Directions: From the 101 in Thousand Oaks, turn south on Moorpark Road. We will meet in the parking lot at the corner of Moorpark and Greenmeadow.
