In search of wildflowers on the way to Josephine Peak

BEFORE YOU WILL BE MOVED TO THE GOING LIST, YOU WILL NEED TO UPDATE YOUR CDH PROFILE (The three questions must be answered with a “yes”) IF YOU HAVE NOT ALREADY DONE SO

During the spring time Colby Canyon is filled with wild flowers. It is a beautifull trail that swtichbacks several times through chaparral and manzanitas. There is a small waterfall at the beginning of the hike and after the recent rains, I am hoping to see some water flowing. Once we re-group at the saddle, we will head towards Jospephine Peak. If it is a clear day we will be rewarded with 360-degree views of the San Gabriel Mountains. Our descent will be a fire road that involves a car pool shuttle back to our starting point.

Since we are living in the age of Covid, I am limiting this event to a max of 10 people due to social distancing.

THESE ARE THE RULES:
1. ONLY people I have been hiking with will be moved to the going list.
2. You must follow all safety guidelines regarding Covid. This means 6 ft social distancing, and wearing a mask.
3. We hike as a group and will not leave anyone behind.
4. Do not attend this hike if you have other plans.

***This will be a shuttle hike. Please respect others by wearing your masks the entire time during the carpool ride with the windows open.***

HERE IS THE PLAN:
We will meet at the intersection of Milmada/Flanders.
Then caravan to Clear Creek Ranger station and leave one or two cars (depending on how many people go), then drive to Colby Canyon trailhead. It’s a short drive.

After the hike those who left their cars at ths starting point will need a ride back.

DIRECTIONS: to the caravan meet up location

Gain-2000′ (approximate)
Difficulty-strong intermediate, NO BEGINNERS

Parking-dirt road at the trailhead
A National Forest Pass is required.

Trail statistics are approximate. For safety purposes always assume they are underestimated. But don’t be disappointed if they are overestimated. Bring more water and snacks than you think you’ll need.

Trail descriptions are based on previous hikes. Current conditions are unknown until arrival. Expect the unexpected and plan accordingly.
