Hiking with Mark E: Caballero Canyon to San Vicente Mtn. Park

We’ll start up the single track in pretty Caballero Canyon to Dirt Mulholland, and then head East on the fire road for only less than a 1/4 mile and take another single track trail through beautiful canyons to a scenic overlook with views of the San Fernando Valley and the ocean. Here we will take a short rest before continuing toward San Vicente Mtn. Park, home of one of the most well-preserved, former Nike Missile Bases in the Southland.

We’ll take a break at the park, eat our snacks, and check out the stunning, 360-degree views from the lookout (including the nearby Encino Reservoir). Then we’ll backtrack on the Dirt Mulholland to Caballero trail back to our cars.

Here’s a rough AllTrails link to the route.

Trail statistics are approximate. For safety purposes always assume they are underestimated. But don’t be disappointed if they are overestimated. Bring more water and snacks than you think you’ll need.

Trail descriptions are based on previous hikes. Current conditions are unknown until arrival. Expect the unexpected and plan accordingly.
