FALL BACKBONE TRAIL 2024 #1 – Will Rogers to Lois Ewen Overlook

Come join us for the Wilderness Adventures Section Fall Backbone Trail series as we hike the entire Trail (67 miles) in two consecutive weekends. Our first Backbone Trail in the Santa Monica Mountains will be a 16 mile, 3000 gain outing on the BBT from the start at Will Rogers Park. We will first hike up to Inspiration Point then along Rodgers Road past Temescal Peak. We will than take the BBT past Hub and Eagle Junctions to Musch Camp to Trippet State Park then taking Hondo Canyon and the Fossil Ridge Trail to the Lois Ewen Overlook. Bring water, snacks, sunscreen, and a good attitude. Rain, excessive heat, or Red Flag alert cancels.

This is a Sierra Club hike, so participants must sign in, carry their medical form, and hike between the leader and sweep. The Sierra Club medical form is available at ttps://tinyurl.com/ycy985mt. We ask you to print it out and bring it with you, but the form will be available at the trailhead as well.

TRAILHEAD LOCATION: Meet at the Lois Ewen Overlook at 7:30 AM at the intersection of Stunt, Saddle Peak, and Scheuren Roads.

CAR SHUTTLE: From the meeting point at the Lois Ewen Overlook, we will car shuttle 15 miles going down Las Flores Canyon Road to the Pacific Coast Highway then taking Sunset Boulevard to the start at Will Rogers State Park.

Trail statistics are approximate. For safety purposes always assume they are underestimated. But don’t be disappointed if they are overestimated. Bring more water and snacks than you think you’ll need.

Trail descriptions are based on previous hikes. Current conditions are unknown until arrival. Expect the unexpected and plan accordingly.
