DESCRIPTION: This is a 6.3-mile trail loop near Simi Valley, California. Generally considered a moderately challenging route, it takes an average of 3 hours to complete. Most of the elevation gain occurs between miles 2-3, some segments are very steep. This is partly on a fire road and trail. Our destination is an historic strip-mining operation that started in 1929 and ceased in 1935. Limestone was mined here for an extremely pure form of Calcium Carbonate (Calcite CaCO3). You’ll find abandoned mining equipment with large boulders of both Limestone and a lot of Fossils as we climb the last hill to the mine. The trail will end at the mining site with the largest mining equipment abandoned there. We’ll return on a loop path (see map below) to return to the trailhead.

• Meet: Las Llajas Trailhead at 7:45 am, departure at 8:00 am sharp
• Distance: Approximately 6.1 miles.
• Elevation gain: Approximately 1,053 feet.
• Time: Approximately 3.5 hours hiking including a snack break.
• Conditioning: You need to be in generally good physical condition.
• Dogs: Dogs are welcome but must be on a leash.
• Restrooms: None.
• Adventure Pass: Not Required
IMPORTANT NOTES: We’ll hike at a brisk pace and ask everyone to stay with the group for a friendly and safe outing. There are no expected stream crossings, exposures, bugs or other warnings. As always, people may slip and fall, encounter poison oak, rattlesnakes, etc. on this hike. This event may be cancelled due to inclement weather before or at the start of the hike.

• Hiking boots and poles.
• Clothing layers recommended.
• Snacks and 2+ liters of water and electrolytes or salt tablets.

- Beginner/Intermediate: 1-7 miles, less than 700 feet elevation gain.
- Intermediate: 5-10 miles, 1000-2000 feet elevation gain.
- Intermediate/Advanced: 7-12 miles, up to 3000 feet elevation gain.
- Advanced: 10-17 miles, 3000 feet or more elevation gain.
