Coquina Mine Trail (Loop)

https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/california/coquina-mine-trail–3

Hello Fellow Hikers,
We have another request to do this trail again…Will be hiking to Coquina Mine in Simi Valley. A little history on the trail from Alltrails…. ” This was a mining operation that started in 1929 and ceased in year 1935. Limestone was mined here for an extremely pure form of Calcium Carbonate (Calcite CaCO3) As you start to travel further up the trail you’ll find abandoned mining equipment with large boulders of both Limestone and Fossils. The trail will end at the mining site with the largest mining equipment abandoned there. This was a strip mining operation so there are no shafts or adits ” This trail is a out and back but will will be doing this as a loop trail.

Trail mileage about 7 miles
Elevation gain about 1100 ft
Dogs allowed
Will be a loop trail
Rated Moderate hike
Free street parking

This hike will Start off on a paved road for about 200 feet then becomes a dirt fire road through a Canyon until we turn off to make our climb to Coquina Mine. From here we will be on a single track trail. Once we leave the top of Coquina Mine we will make our way back down to a split were we will start our loop. This section will be narrow and follows the side of a mountain were will follow the backside mountains of Simi Valley. Most of the trail will be in mountain ranges and canyons with no views of housing or commercial buildings. Generally a lot of wildlife in this area so hopefully we will get lucky to see some within eyesight. Just a friendly reminder to please bring enough water for the entire duration of the hike as well as snacks.
I will load a AllTrails link below that will give you directions to the trailhead location.as well as pics of the trail stats ratings map ect. https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/california/coquina-mine-trail–3

As of now there is no sweeper for this hike so please know if you feel you can not finish for any reason please turn back early

Please check back on hike info as rain, heat advisory, strong winds or low attendance may cause the hike to be rescheduled

Please remember to bring all essentials you’ll need for a hike
(water, hat, sunglasses, hiking boot/hiking shoes poles if needed snacks)

Last thing we will follow Jims most important rules..

  1. Hike Your Own Hike
  2. Stop at all splits or junctions on the trail for others to catch up

Trail statistics are approximate. For safety purposes always assume they are underestimated. But don’t be disappointed if they are overestimated. Bring more water and snacks than you think you’ll need.

Trail descriptions are based on previous hikes. Current conditions are unknown until arrival. Expect the unexpected and plan accordingly.
