Car Wreck and Dripping Cave hike

Join us on Saturday, September 14, at 7 a.m., for Jenny’s O-provisional hike to the locally famous Car Wreck and Dripping Cave trails. We’ll meet at the West Ridge trailhead near Alta Laguna Park (3300 Alta Laguna Blvd, Laguna Beach, CA 92651). Please park on the street and plan to arrive early, as this is a popular spot for hikers and mountain bikers.

From West Ridge trailhead, we’ll turn down Mathis and all the way to Wood Canyon trail, from which we’ll access Dripping Cave trail to explore this legendary cave. From there we’ll head back to Mathis and turn onto Car Wreck trail to visit another local legend.

This route is out and back, with a loop midway, and is just over 5 miles with around 1,000 feet of gain. We’ll go at an easy pace, but you might want to bring some poles for the Car Wreck trail. Bring snacks, at least 1 to 2 liters of water, hiking shoes, sunscreen, and a hat.

Please RSVP by email to the leader, Jenny at jgardelle@gmail.com.

Trail statistics are approximate. For safety purposes always assume they are underestimated. But don’t be disappointed if they are overestimated. Bring more water and snacks than you think you’ll need.

Trail descriptions are based on previous hikes. Current conditions are unknown until arrival. Expect the unexpected and plan accordingly.
