SUMMARY:Blue Ridge Trail
DESCRIPTION:DESCRIPTION: This is a pleasant uphill hike on the north slope of Blue Ridge. Our trail starts up through stands of scrub oak\, black oak\, and Jeffrey pine\, changing to white fir\, sugar pine\, and lodgepole pine as we climb the mountain. Views over Table Mt. and San Gabriel East Fork\, with back drops of Mt. Baldy\, Iron Mt\, and Mt. Baden-Powell. This is a hike we should stroll and enjoy nature’s delights. As of this post Hwy 2 is closed between Islip Saddle and Vincent Gap for road repair per CAL TRANS. \nDETAILS:\n· Hike leader volunteer(s): Dave.\n· Meet location: Across the street from Big Pines Visitor Center\n· Distance: ~ 7 3/4 Miles total (out and back style)\n· Elevation gain: ~ 2000′ feet\n· Time: Approximately 4 hours hiking including a snack break.\n· Conditioning: You need to be in generally good physical condition.\n· Dogs: Dogs are welcome but need to be on a leash.\n· Hiking Poles – recommended\n· Restrooms – At trailhead.\n· Adventure Pass – Yes. The new Big Pines Parking pass in not required. \nIMPORTANT NOTES: We’ll hike at a brisk pace and ask everyone to stay with the group for a friendly and safe outing. Any guest that you wish to invite should join the Community Hiking Club (CHC) to participate. Depending on water flow\, we may cross streams\, there are exposures\, bugs or other warnings. As always\, people may slip and fall\, encounter poison oak\, snakes\, etc. on this hike. This event may be cancelled due to inclement weather at the start of the hike. Check the weather report and plan according. \nESSENTIAL GEAR:\nHiking boots\, bug net and poles.\nClothing layers recommended.\nSnacks and 3+ liters of water and electrolytes or salt tablets.\nHat and sunscreen. \nAdditional Hiking and Survival Gear Recommendations (link) \nTHIS HIKE RANKING: Level 3\, Intermediate (see chart below) – \nCHC HIKE RANKING SCALE:\n1. Beginner: 1-3 miles\, less than 500 feet elevation gain.\n2. Beginner/Intermediate: 1-7 miles\, less than 700 feet elevation gain.\n3. Intermediate: 5-10 miles\, 1000-2000 feet elevation gain.\n4. Intermediate/Advanced: 7-12 miles\, up to 3000 feet elevation gain.\n5. Advanced: 10-17 miles\, 3000 feet or more elevation gain. \nTRAIL Location: Big Pines Visitors Center address is 24537 Big Pines Hwy. The Visitor Center is on Hwy 2 just before the intersection of Big Pines Hwy and Hwy 2. Our meet location will be across Hwy 2 at the parking lot.
