SUMMARY:Wildwood Central Park ~ Gentler Intermediate
DESCRIPTION:Wildwood Park in Thousand Oaks is one of the most versatile local parks there is\, with 27 miles of trails skittering through rocky cliffs\, cacti-filled desert environs\, volcanic rock\, riparian forest\, and a cool\, watery canyon. Highlights of the hike include waterfalls incorporating 40’ Paradise waterfalls along with a long creek\, Indian caves\, volcanic rock cliffs\, and wildflowers throughout. Wildwood’s archetypal western look served as the set for The Rifleman\, Gunsmoke\, and Wagon Train back in the day\, as well as the movie Spartacus. Currently\, it’s very beautiful with an abundance of wildflowers and California poppies in addition to powerful waterfalls. \nIt will start at Moonridge Trail and pass through various trails with bridges\, waterfalls\, crossing streams and tree canopies over approximately 5-6 miles with about a 1000’ elevation gain/loss. \nDirections:\nFrom the 101 in Thousand Oaks\, turn north on Lynn Road and continue 2.6 miles to Avenida De Los Arboles\, then turn left. Continue for about a mile to the end and turn into the Wildwood parking lot on the left. \nFrom the 118\, travel west to the 23\, exit at Avenida De Los Arboles and turn right. Drive further than you remember having to drive to this trailhead (10 or 15 minutes). Turn left into the parking lot when the road ends. \nPlease review the guidelines (link to the guidelines) to join our hikes.\nRestrictions apply for your safety and ours: \n\nDon’t show up unless you’re shown on the “Attending” list.\nPlan on KEEPING UP with the group and completing the entire hike at a moderate pace**\,** or please find an alternative hike that better suits your hiking level.\nNo “Plus Ones” or dogs on Weekday Trailblazer hikes.\n\nDISCLAIMER/RELEASE OF LIABILITY – PLEASE READ IN ITS ENTIRETY\nThe hike host is a volunteer and not responsible for the group. Safety should be a priority for everyone in the group. Please treat this meet-up as hiking with a group of friends. If you become fatigued and unable to continue the hike\, it is expected you will advise the hike host of this and return to our starting point on your own. If you are able to proceed\, it is expected that you will maintain line of sight with other members of the group at all times and help to promote the group’s safety and fitness goals. \nOutdoor sports and other events we plan can be inherently dangerous and accidents may happen. By participating in any posted event\, you are taking responsibility for your own safety and well-being. The Weekday Trailblazers Meetup Group and its organizers are not trained leaders and we do not confirm the qualifications of any of its members to lead or participate in trips. SUMMARY:Wildwood Central Park Gentler Hike
DESCRIPTION:Wildwood Park is one of our most versatile local parks\, with 27 miles of trails traversing rocky volcanic cliffs\, cacti-filled desert environs\, riparian forest\, and a cool\, watery canyon. Wildwood’s western look served as backdrop for TV classics such as The Rifleman\, Gunsmoke\, and Wagon Train. \nWe will meet at Wildwood’s main parking lot. This looping hike will start at the Mesa Trail\, cross over to the Stagecoach Bluff Trail towards Lizard Rock\, then down the Lizard Rock Trail to the water treatment plant where we pick up the Wildwood Canyon Trail\, crossing streams and tree canopies on the way to Paradise Falls. Upstream of the falls\, Indian Creek (Two Springs) Trail takes us back up to the main parking lot and completes our “Central Park” loop. This hike is approximately 5 miles with about a 800’ elevation gain/loss. We may cross paths with David’s hike or they may pass us along the way. We will be shorter and slower. We’ll take the fire road to Lynmere Trail. We will take a short break at the halfway point on Lynmere Trails. On the way back we may go by the Indian Cave. We’ll pass through various trails with On bridges\, crossing streams\, and have some tree canopies for relief from the heat for approximately 7+ miles with about a 1200’ elevation gain/loss. \nDirections: \nFrom the 101 in Thousand Oaks\, turn north on Lynn Road and continue 2.6 miles to Avenida De Los Arboles\, then turn left. \nDISCLAIMER / RELEASE OF LIABILITY \nThe hike host is a volunteer and not responsible for the group. SUMMARY:Lynmere Loop from Wildwood Park (Fast Paced)
DESCRIPTION:PLEASE READ BELOW IN ITS ENTIRETY. \nKindly review the guidelines (link to the guidelines) to join our hikes.\nRestrictions apply for your attendance. \n\nDon’t show up unless you’re shown on the “Attending” list.\nPlan on KEEPING UP with the group and completing the entire hike or please find an alternative hike that better suits your hiking level.\nYour safety is your own personal responsibility\, but the hike leader reserves the right to ask you to leave if you come unprepared.\nNo “Plus Ones” or dogs on Weekday Trailblazer hikes.\n\nLet’s do Lynmere from Wildwood for a change. We will shorten it a bit. Hoping to have some relief from the sun and heat on this hike. Bring plenty of water. \nWildwood Park in Thousand Oaks is one of the most versatile local parks there is\, with 27 miles of trails skittering through rocky cliffs\, cacti-filled desert environs\, volcanic rock\, riparian forest\, and a cool\, watery canyon. \nIt will start at the trailhead that has steps down to the Moonridge Trail. We’ll take Teepee Trail to Lynmere Trail. After completing the loop we will take Wildwood Canyon Trail\, pass by Paradise Falls\, and take our break in the picnic area. We will pick up Lizard Rock Trail and go by a water treatment plant on our way to Lizard Rock. We will either take Stagecoach Bluff Trail for some more elevation\, or catch Mesa Trail back to the parking lot. We’ll pass through various trails with bridges\, crossing streams\, and have some tree canopies for relief from the heat for approximately 7+ miles with about a 1200’ elevation gain/loss. \nDirections: \nFrom the 101 in Thousand Oaks\, turn north on Lynn Road and continue 2.6 miles to Avenida De Los Arboles\, then turn left. \nDISCLAIMER / RELEASE OF LIABILITY \nThe hike host is a volunteer and not responsible for the group. Safety should be a priority for everyone in the group. Please treat this meet-up as hiking with a group of friends. If you become fatigued and unable to continue the hike\, it is expected you will advise the hike host of this and return to our starting point on your own. If you are able to proceed\, it is expected that you will maintain line of sight with other members of the group at all times and help to promote the group’s safety and fitness goals.\nOutdoor sports and other events we plan can be inherently dangerous and accidents may happen. SUMMARY:Conejo Fall Trail Work Day and Lunch
DESCRIPTION:Come and join your COSCA and COSF friends to fix up some of Conejo Valley’s most popular trails in Wildwood Park! \nWe’re still recovering from the many rainstorms we had last winter. You can help us restore them during the Conejo Open Space Conservation Agency’s (COSCA) Fall Trail Work Day on Saturday October 21. We will be working on the Santa Rosa Trail and Stagecoach Bluff Trail. If we get enough volunteers we may be able to work on another trail too. We will return at noon for a Thank-You lunch and prize give-away courtesy of the Conejo Open Space Foundation (COSF) and COSCA. \nMeet at the INNER parking lot at Wildwood at 7:30 am to register and be ready to walk to the work area by 8. We will return at noon for a Thank You lunch. To speed up the sign-in process\, we would appreciate it if you could register online in advance at https://cosf.org/meetup/ Advance registration will also help us plan for the number of people to feed! \nThanks for registering in advance! \nAll tools will be provided\, as well as instructions on how to use them safely and effectively\, by experienced trail crew leaders. No experience needed – everyone works at a rate they’re comfortable with and takes lots of breaks. \nWear sturdy hiking boots with good lugs\, long pants\, a long-sleeved shirt\, sunglasses\, sunblock and a hat\, and bring water and snacks. Bring work gloves. \nYou can learn more about trail restoration work here. \nParents/guardians are responsible for minors at all times\, and they must constantly and directly supervise children under 14. Children must be over 7-years old to attend. Please leave your 4-legged friends at home for trail work events.

SUMMARY:Wildwood Central Park ~ Gentler\, Slower\, Intermediate
DESCRIPTION:This hike is in addition to Laurie’s hike on the same day and same park\, but a totally different area. We will also go a bit slower and we will skip the Moonridge Trail and head strait to the Stagecoach Bluff Trail via the Mesa Trail. Hopefully\, we can meet up with Laurie’s hike for lunch. \nWildwood Park in Thousand Oaks is one of the most versatile local parks there is\, with 27 miles of trails skittering through rocky cliffs\, cacti-filled desert environs\, volcanic rock\, riparian forest\, and a cool\, watery canyon. \nIt will start at the main parking lot for Wildwood and pass through various trails with bridges\, waterfalls\, crossing streams and tree canopies over approximately 5 miles with about a 800’ elevation gain/loss. We will either take Stagecoach Bluff Trail for some more elevation\, or catch Mesa Trail back to the parking lot. SUMMARY:Santa Rosa Trail Loop through Box Canyon
DESCRIPTION:Come Join Us Saturday\, December 5\, for an afternoon/evening workout hike! \nWe start on time at Wildwood Park where there are a ton of trails. We will be veering right at the Santa Rosa Trail/Box Canyon sign and go up a steep incline\, which is about 1 mile to the top. If you are a beginner you could do the hill and then turn around to make it a heart-pounding 2 mile hike. The rest of us will keep going at a good pace as the trail loops around so you can see Santa Rosa Valley/Camarillo and then back to the trailhead in Wildwood. We should finish by no later than 5pm depending on the pace. \nDistance: 6.3 milesElevation Gain: 1000+Difficulty: Intermediate Hike. If a Beginner tags along they should turn around at the top and not do the loop. Please do not expect us to wait for you.Dogs: NoRestrooms: There may be a pit toilet at the trailheadWater Fountain: noParking: Free parking lotTrail: This is a loop trail unless you just want to do 2 miles up to the ridge and back.Sunset: 4:45 pm bring flashlight or headlamp just in case we take longer that 2.5 hoursWeather: It can always start out hot at this trailhead since there is no shade. Hike will be canceled due to extreme weather (85 or above\, Santa Ana Wind conditions etc) \nKnown Dangers: Rattlesnakes and poison oak can be at this trail. Watch what plants you brush up against and be aware that snakes co exist here. \nBring: Flashlight/headlamp and a personal snack. You may want sunscreen/sunglasses or hat starting out and an extra layer in case you get cold on the way back. We can take a 5-10 minute break at the bottom which is a little more than halfway\, where the houses are and then keep going. \nBring lots of water I recommend 2-3 liters. It is always good to bring more that you need and get practice carrying it. \nCOVID-19 DISCLAIMER / RULESPlease follow the guidelines under the California Department of Public Health (CDPH). https://covid19.ca.gov/COVID information for Ventura and LA counties:• https://www.venturacountyrecovers.org/• http://www.publichealth.lacounty.gov/media/Coronavirus/ \nYour participation means you agree with the observance of mandated COVID-19 safety measures and you agree to follow these rules: \n• Each participant will observe social distancing of 6 ft. among ourselves.• It is required to carry a mask and wear it through the duration of the hike.
