SUMMARY:Santa Rosa Trail Loop through Box Canyon - Intermediate
DESCRIPTION:Haven’t done this hike in a long time. Hoping the marshy area has dried up since we have had no rain in a while. \nPlease read these restrictions before signing up. \n\nDon’t show up unless you’re shown on the “Attending” list\nUnregistered or waitlisted will be turned away\nNo “Plus Ones” on this hike\nNo dogs allowed on the hike\n\nTime to check out the Santa Rosa Trail to view some cool properties including the train collector yard accessible through Wildwood Park in Thousand Oaks. Wildwood is one of the most versatile local parks there is\, with 27 miles of trails skittering through rocky cliffs\, cacti-filled desert environs\, volcanic rock\, riparian forest\, and a cool\, watery canyon. Wildwood’s archetypal western look served as the set for The Rifleman\, Gunsmoke\, and Wagon Train back in the day\, as well as the movie Spartacus. This hike takes us up the Santa Rosa Trail to Mount Clef Ridge\, providing sweeping views of the park\, the Santa Rosa Valley. \nhttp://photos3.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/9/1/5/2/600_318817202.jpeg \nDescending into the valley\, we’ll pass the famed train yard\, as well as other quirky estates. \nhttp://photos2.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/d/d/e/c/600_99896812.jpeg \nWe will take the Box Canyon Trail and the Mesa Trail back and if there’s time hit Lizard rock before heading back to the parking lot. Our route will be approximately 6 1/2 miles and 1000 +’ of elevation gain. Much of the hike is exposed- dress appropriately\, and make sure you have water or beverage of choice. Bring your cellphone\, a headlamp or flash light\, any medications you may need\, and a rainjacket if the weather looks iffy. \nhttp://photos1.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/c/a/0/600_451023232.jpeg \nhttp://photos4.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/d/4/1/600_451023393.jpeg \nDirections: \nFrom the 101 in Thousand Oaks\, turn north on Lynn Road and continue 2.6 miles to Avenida De Los Arboles\, then turn left. Continue for about a mile to the end and turn into the Wildwood parking lot on the left. \nFrom the 118\, travel west to the 23\, exit at Avenida De Los Arboles and turn right. Drive further than you remember having to drive to this trailhead (10 or 15 minutes). Turn left into the parking lot when the road ends. \nWatch for cross traffic coming from the right when you turn into the parking lot- they don’t have to stop. Parking is ample and free. \nDISCLAIMER / RELEASE OF LIABILITY \nIMPORTANT\, PLEASE READ BELOW IN ITS ENTIRETY: \nThe hike host is a volunteer and not responsible for the group. Safety should be a priority for everyone in the group. Please treat this meet-up as hiking with a group of friends. If you become fatigued and unable to continue the hike\, it is expected you will advise the hike host of this and return to our starting point on your own. If you are able to proceed\, it is expected that you will maintain line of sight with other members of the group at all times and help to promote the group’s safety and fitness goals. \nOutdoor sports and other events we plan can be inherently dangerous and accidents may happen. By participating in any posted event\, you are taking responsibility for your own safety and well-being. The Weekday Trailblazers Meetup Group and its organizers are not trained leaders and we do not confirm the qualifications of any of its members to lead or participate in trips. All participants take full responsibility for their own actions. \nIf you choose to sign up for this or any Weekday Trailblazers Meetup event\, you are releasing the Weekday Trailblazers Meetup Group and its organizers from all liability in case of possible injuries. Your personal safety depends on your own judgment and experience. \nAll participants must be 18 or older\, or accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. \n** Any last minute issues\, my cell # is: 818-523-8719.\nHope you can join me. \nLinda

The last part of this road is too steep and goes through private land so we won’t do this portion. The second road is Alisal Road which follows Alisal Creek past the Alisal Guest Ranch & Resort. Finally we will end up at Nojoqui Falls. Strong bikers are welcomed to join us on their regular bikes. Both roads are paved. \nMake sure you bring along a spare inner tube and have tires inflated for road riding. \nMEETUP Alisal Road Parking Lot at 9:00am. \nPARKING FEE: Free \nRESTROOMS: YES \nMEETUP TIME: 9:00 a.m. \nDURATION: 5 HOURS \nDISTANCE: 34 miles \nROUTE: \nELEVATION GAIN: 2800′ \nPACE: No faster than the slowest member \nTERRAIN: 26 miles of paved roads and 8 miles on a dirt road \nDEBRIEFING: Late lunch at CHOMP Burgers Fries Shakes \n1693 Mission Drive Solvang \nMY CELL# IS: 805-358-5972;X-APPLE-RADIUS=500;X-TITLE=998 W Avenida de Los Arboles:geo:-118.9022487,34.2200572
