SUMMARY:Peace\, Love\, Joy Alternate Hike - Wendy & Potrero
DESCRIPTION:This is a “piggyback” hike to Steve’s of the same time & destination to accommodate the waitlisted hikers. Note the Wendy Trailhead start location. (COSCA requires us to limit groups to 25) \nAfter a turbulent week\, let’s give one another a hug\, then enjoy the peace and tranquility of our local mountainscape. \nWe will most likely encounter the primary hikers but start at the south end of Wendy on Potrero Road then head up through grasslands and chaparral from the Wendy Trailhead\, then climb up Boney Mountain Trail for some fantastic views west to Port Hueneme\, Oxnard and the Pacific Ocean. We may see Santa Cruz Island as well as the Los Padres Mountain range if it’s not hazy. If it’s really clear\, we’ll catch a glimpse of Mount Baldy in the distance to our east. \nThis out and back hike is about 6 miles with 1100 feet of elevation gain. The hike will start in SMMNRA and pass into Point Mugu State Park and Wilderness. It’s mostly single track and fire road. Dogs are not permitted in State Park wilderness areas. \nPlease bring ample hydration. There is poison oak at the Monument; if you don’t know what it looks like\, stay on the paths and don’t stray into the woods. \nNOTE: Please review the guidelines to participate in our hikes. Here are some highlights and a link to the guidelines: \nRestrictions apply for your safety and ours: \n\nDon’t show up unless you’re on the “Attending” list\nAll participants must be 18 or older\, or accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.\nNo “Plus Ones” on this hike\nNo dogs allowed.\n\nNote: We will meet at the Rancho Sierra Vista paved parking lot. Meet near the bathrooms.
