DESCRIPTION:https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/california/san-vicente-mountain-old-nike-missile-site-trail–3/photos \nHello Fellow Hikers\,\nWe are gonna be visiting LA96C Nike Missile Site to start our trail. Then will continue on Sullivan fire road down the mountain. Now for a little piece of history about our hike….\nDuring the Cold War this was a military reservation. LA96C was one of 16 Nike missile sites that protected Los Angeles from a feared attack by Soviet bombers. It was an active battery from 1956-1968 with radar searching the sky for enemy airplanes. New military technology made the Nike missiles obsolete\, and the site has been made into a park. Nature is reclaiming the military ruins. Carpooling at our same meetup spot will be offered for anyone who wishes to carpool or follow to the trailhead (Best donuts located 2325 Kuehner Dr # 127 Simi Valley off the 118 freeway at 8:15am) I have attached the AllTrails link for directions\, pics\, and stats: https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/california/san-vicente-mountain-old-nike-missile-site-trail–3 \nTrail out and back\nMiles 10.0\nRated moderate\nElevation Gain 1417 ft\nDogs allowed\nParking free dirt lot \nAs of now there is no sweeper for this hike so please know if you feel you can not finish for any reason please turn back early \nPlease check back on hike info as rain\, heat advisory\, strong winds or low attendance may cause the hike to be rescheduled \nWe will always follow Jim’s Golden Rules:\n1.
