DESCRIPTION:3.2 miles\, 900′ gain\, Intermediate. \nThe first part is a steady incline\, followed by a rolling trail to our destination. Fit beginners can complete this hike\, but it will certainly get their blood pumping. There are no super steep sections. \nThis hike takes us to a secret spot below a large rock formation. Naturally into the side of the rock is a half-globe carved out of it\, giving us a quasi-cave area to sit and have our social event. \nThis is not a conditioning hike\, it’s a social hike. We’ll be stopping at various points to let people catch up and to make sure they make any turns. We’ll stop at the turn around point for a social event lasting 30 – 60 minutes\, where we will share snacks and beverages. \nThe Route \nHike\nDistance: 3.2 miles\nGain: 900′\nDistribution: Most of the incline is in the first half.\nDifficulty\nShape: Out and Back.\nPace: approx. 2.0 mph.\nTrail Type: Double track\, single track.\nTrail Variations:\nDuration: 3.5 hours\nDogs: Yes.\nRestrooms: Yes\, about a block from the start.\nDrinking Fountains: Maybe by the restrooms.\nParking: Park in the street. \nWhat to bring\n1 liter of water for every 3 miles.\nHiking shoes/boots. DESCRIPTION:This out-and-back hike is about 5 miles with an elevation gain/loss of 1000’ -1200’ provides a great overview of the Thousand Oaks area\, the ocean and the western Santa Monica Mountains. The first portion is a narrow trail that zigzags its way up and if you reach the top\, you’ll be enjoying 360 degree views toward Boney Mountain on the west\, Lang Ranch and Woodridge trails on the north and more. \nDirections: \nFrom 101: Exit at Westlake Boulevard and turn north (away from the ocean). Drive 4.2 miles to Lang Ranch Parkway\, then turn right. Go left on the Sandstone Hills until it intersects power line roads. This will be a 5+ miles round trip\, and 1300 ft elevation). Trails are wide and easy. There will be no sweep. This is an in- and-out-hike on same trail. \nDirections:\nFrom the East\, West & South – take the 101 toward Thousand Oaks. Exit at Westlake Boulevard and turn north (away from the ocean). Drive 4.1 miles and turn right on the Lang Ranch Parkway. Continue 0.3 mile along Lang Ranch Parkway. You’ll need to turn around and park across the street from the entrance to the Oakbrook Vista Trailhead (do not park on the same side of the road as the trailhead). \nFrom the North – take the 23 south toward Thousand Oaks. Exit at the Avenida De Los Arboles exit and turn left (east) on Avenida De Los Arboles. Drive 1.5 miles and turn right on Westlake Boulevard. Drive 0.2 miles and turn left on the Lang Ranch Parkway. We’ll be stopping at various points to let people catch up and to make sure they make any turns. SUMMARY:Oakbrook Vista Trailhead at Lang Ranch
DESCRIPTION:This will be the easier hike for Tuesday. We will also be a little slower and shorter. \nThis out-and-back of 5-miles with an elevation gain/loss of +/-900’ provides a great overview of the Thousand Oaks area\, the ocean and the western Santa Monica Mountains. The first portion is a narrow trail that zigzags its way up to enjoy views of Lang Ranch and Woodridge trails on the north and more. When the trail splits\, we’ll continue up Sandstone Hills trail until we reach 2.5 miles and then head back. \nDirections: \nFrom 101: Exit at Westlake Boulevard and turn north (away from the ocean). Drive 4.2 miles to Lang Ranch Parkway\, then turn right. DESCRIPTION:This out-and-back about 7.5-mile hike with an elevation gain/loss of +/-1500’ provides a great overview of the Thousand Oaks area\, the ocean and the western Santa Monica Mountains. The first portion is a narrow trail that zigzags its way up to enjoy views of Lang Ranch and Woodridge trails on the north and more. When the trail splits\, we’ll continue up Sandstone Hills trail to the power pole and stop to enjoy the view. When we head back\, to add a bit more mileage\, we’ll hang a left to take the Hidden Meadow trail to the end and turn around.\nIf anyone wants to make the hike shorter\, they can skip this part and head back for an almost 6 mile hike. \nDirections: \nFrom 101: Exit at Westlake Boulevard and turn north (away from the ocean). Fit beginners can complete this hike\, but it will certainly get their blood pumping. There are no super steep sections. \nThis hike takes us to a secret spot below a large rock formation. Naturally into the side of the rock is a half-globe carved out of it\, giving us a quasi-cave area to sit and have our social event. \nThis is not a conditioning hike\, it’s a social hike. We’ll be stopping at various points to let people catch up and to make sure they make any turns. We’ll stop at the turn around point for a social event lasting 30 – 60 minutes\, where we will share snacks and beverages. \nThe Route \nHike\nDistance: 3.2 miles\nGain: 900′\nDistribution: Most of the incline is in the first half.\nDifficulty\nShape: Out and Back.\nPace: approx. 2.0 mph.\nTrail Type: Double track\, single track.\nTrail Variations:\nDuration: 3.5 hours\nDogs: Yes.\nRestrooms: Yes\, about a block from the start.\nDrinking Fountains: Maybe by the restrooms.\nParking: Park in the street. \nWhat to bring\n1 liter of water for every 3 miles.\nHiking shoes/boots.
