SUMMARY:Morro Bay Camping Trip\, Thurs Aug 14 - Sun Aug 17\, 2025
DESCRIPTION:CHC Camping Trip\nMorro Bay State Park Campground. August 14-17\, 2025 \nJoin us for a fun and educational beach campout! \nMorro Bay State Park is located 13 miles west of San Luis Obispo\, on the Central Coast about 3.5 hours from Santa Clarita. The park features a lagoon and natural bay habitats\, and a natural history museum. Our CHC geologist\, Mary Bates will be along to teach about the geological features of the area. On the lagoon’s northeastern and eastern edges\, there are saltwater and brackish marshes that support thriving bird populations. Two of the Nine Sisters chain of volcanic peaks leading from San Luis Obispo to Morro Bay\, Black Hill & Cerro Cabrillo\, are within park boundaries. Black Hill has a trail winding through dense stands of Monterey Pine trees and offers a panoramic view of the greater Morro Bay area at its summit. Cerro Cabrillo has even more trails to explore all along its base. It is near Montana de Oro\, which also has some beautiful trails. \nThe Community Hiking Club of SCV has reserved a limited number of pre-paid campsites which are available for sharing with other CHC campers. The cost of the reserved campsites will be divided equally among the number of campers per site. Each camper will be advised of their portion prior to the trip and is responsible for paying the party who reserved the campsite upon arrival. \nEach campsite has a fire ring and picnic table with water spigots nearby. There are flush toilets and TOKEN-operated shower facilities in place. An RV sanitation station and water-fill station are also available. Firewood is for sale from the campground host and proceeds go to help the Central Coast State Parks Association. \nOnly 2 vehicles maximum per campsite\, so carpooling from SCV is highly recommended. No extra vehicles in campsites beyond the 2 vehicle limit. Trailers and motorcycles count as vehicles. Additional vehicles may be parked just outside the state park. Arrangements can be made with another camper to help bring you and your camping equipment into the campground with their vehicle should you arrive after the parking spots at the campsite have been filled. \n8 Persons maximum per campsite. \nDogs must be monitored and leashed within the campgrounds. \nTo Reserve a Spot: RSVP AND secure your spot with a $20 deposit. Venmo your deposit to @Heidi-Webber-5 with the comment “Morro Bay Camping.” The rest of the fees will be divided between attendees and collected at the campsite. First come\, first served. \nRefund Policy:\nIf you cancel\, your deposit is forfeited.\nIf CHC cancels a camping trip that requires a reservation fee at the time the site is reserved\, each camper that paid the $20 deposit to hold their spot on the trip will be refunded all of their $20 minus the shared cost of any cancellation fee\, if one is charged. \nAddress:\nMorro Bay Campground\nState Park Road\nMorro Bay\, CA 93442 \nDirections:\nMorro Bay State Park & Campground are located: \n\n13 miles west of San Luis Obispo on Highway 1\n32 miles south of the Hearst San Simeon State Historical Monument Visitor Center on Highway 1\n124 miles south of Monterey through Big Sur on Highway 1 (When road conditions permit)\nThe charming community of Morro Bay is located 1.5 miles to the north of the campground and offers gas stations\, grocery stores\, dining and more.\nThe coastal town of Cayucos is located 7.5 miles to the north of the campground and offers more dining choices.\nThe small town of Los Osos is located 5 miles to the south of the campground and offers even more gas stations\, grocery stores\, and dining options.\n\n\n\nGoogle Maps link:\nhttps://maps.app.goo.gl/Unrn7SVp9oPRmyWn6 \nMore information will go out the week of the trip.\nDISCLAIMER / RELEASE OF LIABILITY – IMPORTANT\, PLEASE READ BELOW IN ITS ENTIRETY:\nWhen you sign up for this event\, you are releasing Community Hiking Club from any liability or responsibility with your participation in this group activity.
