SUMMARY:Labor Day VIP Hike - Malibu
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]We’ll be hiking along one of our secret trails on the eastern ridge of upper Zuma Canyon. I haven’t been there since before the Woolsey fire and It was completely burned (along with the nearby connecting trails). It may be more overgrown now than it was when we first used it. \nWe will begin by hiking northwest from Kanan on the Backbone Trail to the Zuma Ridge Trail. The winding trail leads to a view of Newton Falls and Upper Zuma Falls\, which are especially grand after the winter rains. \n \nWe will then turn south along Zuma Ridge to Buzzards Roost where we will rest\, eat and take in ocean views. \n \nOur secret trail will come into view way across the canyon. It has been revealed by the Woolsey fire and not so secret anymore. \n \nAfter passing Buzzards Roost we will continue on Zuma Ridge until we come to an equestrian trail and descend down into Zuma Canyon. Maybe there will be water in the creek \n \nAfter a short break and crossing the creek we’ll head up my secret trail to the eastern ridge of Zuma Canyon and snake our way up and to the north back toward the cars closing the loop. \n \nHike is strenuous at about 9.5 miles with almost 2\,800 ft total ascent. We’ll go at an easy pace \nWear long pants. Bring at least 2qts water\, lunch/snacks\, good hiking shoes\nBruce did a little work on the secret trail Sunday (9/1). Here is a sample of the trail conditions: \n[vc_row][vc_column][vc_gallery type=”image_grid” images=”55886\,55885″ img_size=”medium”][/vc_column][/vc_row] \n\nDirections\nThe trailhead parking lot is on Kanan\, north side ot T1 \nFrom the Ventura Freeway 101\, go south (toward beaches) on Kanan Road about 7.8 miles to just before the “third tunnel” (T1). The parking lot is on the right (west side of what is now Kanan-Dume Road) and easy to spot. \nFrom Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu\, go north on Kanan Dume Road about 4.3 miles\, just through the “first tunnel\,” and make a left turn into the parking lot on the west side of Kanan Dume.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
