SUMMARY:Lang Ranch to China Flat - Intermediate Hike at 8:30 am
DESCRIPTION:Please Note 8:30 start time! \nWe will respect the warmer temperatures predicted for the coming week by starting at 8:30 and only going to China Flat instead of Simi Peak (though you’re welcome to do so on your own). \nThe hike is a 6.5 mile out & back with 1\,500′ of elevation gain from Lang Ranch parkway to China Flat. If you do the extension to Simi Peak\, that adds another 1.5 miles and 300′ of elevation gain. Our route is principally on the Albertson Fire Road\, which goes from the trailhead eastward all the way to Upper Las Virgenes Canyon\, and is a favorite route for hikers and mountain bikers alike. We’ll turn off this hilly fire road after about three miles and head south for about a quarter of a mile\, on a single track trail\, to a site well-known to Marty McFly and Doc Brown. If you choose to continue\, on your own\, you’ll cross China Flats and then up to the commanding views of 2400-foot Simi Peak. \nThe Albertson Fire Road is an especially scenic route in both directions\, rising up above the Simi and Conejo Valleys and offering westward views of the Pacific and offshore islands. China Flats was the site of Back to the Future 3’s wild west scenes. We will enjoy breath-taking views of the Simi Valley\, Moorpark\, and Bard Reservoir. If you continue on your own to Simi Peak\, you’ll add view of the Conejo Valley\, San Fernando Valley\, Oxnard Plains\, Pacific Ocean\, and the Channel Islands. \nThis hike is exposed almost the entire way\, and the sun has a way of sneaking up on you even on a temperate day. Bring plenty of water and portable shade. \nFree on-street parking is available at the trailhead. \nDirections:\nTake the 101 toward Thousand Oaks. Exit at Westlake Boulevard and turn north (away from the ocean). Drive 4.1 miles and turn right on Lang Ranch Parkway. Continue 0.8 miles and park where the Lang Ranch Parkway makes a sharp left. \nPlease review our guidelines to participate in our hikes. Restrictions apply for your safety and ours. Here are some highlights: \n\nDon’t show up unless you’re on the “Attending” list\nIf you’re on the “Attending” list but your plans change\, please change your RSVP to “Not Attending”\nNo “Plus Ones” on this hike\nPlan on completing the entire hike at a reasonable pace or please find an alternative hike that better suits your hiking level.\nNo dogs allowed.\n\nDISCLAIMER / RELEASE OF LIABILITY\nIMPORTANT\, PLEASE READ BELOW IN ITS ENTIRETY: \nThe hike host is a volunteer and not responsible for the group. Safety should be a priority for everyone in the group. Please treat this meet-up as hiking with a group of friends. If you become fatigued and unable to continue the hike\, it is expected you will advise the hike host of this and return to our starting point on your own. If you are able to proceed\, it is expected that you will maintain line of sight with other members of the group at all times and help to promote the group’s safety and fitness goals. \nOutdoor sports and other events we plan can be inherently dangerous and accidents may happen. By participating in any posted event\, you are taking responsibility for your own safety and well-being. The Weekday Trailblazers Meetup Group and its organizers are not trained leaders and we do not confirm the qualifications of any of its members to lead or participate in trips. All participants take full responsibility for their own actions. \nIf you choose to sign up for this or any Weekday Trailblazers Meetup event\, you are releasing the Weekday Trailblazers Meetup Group and its organizers from all liability in case of possible injuries. Your personal safety depends on your own judgment and experience. \nAll participants must be 18 or older\, or accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
