SUMMARY:Hill Canyon to Lizard Rock\, New Bridge\, Hawk Canyon - 5.3 miles\, 1200'
DESCRIPTION:I’m not sure I’d call this a “Gentler” given 1\,200′ of elevation gain and loss\, but at least the climb is right at the beginning\, and it’s all downhill or flat from there. You can see the trail route here. \nThe hike starts at the parking area on Hill Canyon Road and climbs Canyon Overlook Trail. The trail is a utility road and becomes a ridgeline trail with spectacular views into Hill Canyon and to Elliott Peak to the west\, and Mountclef Butte to the east\, ending at Lizard Rock with its own amazing views. We then descend to the New Bridge\, take the shady route partway through Hawk Canyon\, then climb up to the meadow\, back to the main intersection\, and back north to the parking lot. \nDirections: \nFrom Moorpark Road in the Santa Rosa Valley\, drive west on Santa Rosa Road for 3.7 miles\, turn left (south) on Hill Canyon Road for about 0.6 miles to the parking lot. \nFrom the 101 Freeway in Camarillo\, take exit 52 onto Santa Rosa Road and drive northeast. After 5 miles\, turn right onto Hill Canyon Road for about 0.6 miles to the parking lot. \nAs you may have heard\, Meetup has raised its annual subscription rate yet again. I will have more of the snazzy “15th Anniversary” stickers which you may have in exchange for your support of our subscription cost. \nPlease review the guidelines to join our hikes.\nRestrictions apply for your safety and ours: \n\nDon’t show up unless you’re shown on the “Attending” list.\nPlan on KEEPING UP with the group and completing the entire hike at a moderate pace**\,** or please find an alternative hike that better suits your hiking level.\nNo “Plus Ones” or dogs on Weekday Trailblazer hikes.\n\nDISCLAIMER/RELEASE OF LIABILITY – PLEASE READ IN ITS ENTIRETY\nThe hike host is a volunteer and not responsible for the group. Safety should be a priority for everyone in the group. Please treat this meet-up as hiking with a group of friends. If you become fatigued and unable to continue the hike\, it is expected you will advise the hike host of this and return to our starting point on your own. If you are able to proceed\, it is expected that you will maintain line of sight with other members of the group at all times and help to promote the group’s safety and fitness goals. \nOutdoor sports and other events we plan can be inherently dangerous and accidents may happen. By participating in any posted event\, you are taking responsibility for your own safety and well-being. The Weekday Trailblazers Meetup Group and its organizers are not trained leaders and we do not confirm the qualifications of any of its members to lead or participate in trips. SUMMARY:Canyon Overlook Trail to Lizard Rock - Intermediate Gentler
DESCRIPTION:I pre-hiked this route on Friday as the weather is getting hot and I haven’t hiked the Canyon Overlook Trail for quite a while. It was pretty exposed\, but the ocean breeze made it comfortable.\nThe hike starts at the parking area on Hill Canyon Road and climbs Canyon Overlook Trail. The trail is a utility road and becomes a ridgeline trail with spectacular views into Hill Canyon and to Elliott Peak to the west\, and Mt Clef Butte to the east\, ending at Lizard Rock with its own amazing views.\nFollow it all the way passing Lizard Rock Trail\, then turn right and up. At the next fork\, 350 yards on\, keep right and continue going uphill. 200 feet further\, turn right to get to the Lizard Rock Trail and continue zigzagging down to Hill Canyon Water Treatment Center. Then\, we will cross over the new canyon bridge to Hill Canyon Trail and return back to our cars. \nThis hike is about 5 miles with a 900-1000’ elevation gain/loss. SUMMARY:Through Conejo Canyon bridge to Wildwood Central Park - Intermediate Gentler
DESCRIPTION:Let’s go to Wildwood Park through a new access route. After crossing the bridge from the parking lot\, we will start the hike following Hill Canyon trail to the newly opened “Conejo Canyon Bridge” which connects trails on either side of the creek\, Conejo Canyons and Wildwood Park. \nWildwood Park in Thousand Oaks is one of the most versatile local parks there is\, with 27 miles of trails skittering through rocky cliffs\, cacti-filled desert environs\, volcanic rock\, riparian forest\, and a cool\, watery canyon. Highlights of the hike include waterfalls incorporating 40’ Paradise waterfalls along with a long creek\, Indian caves\, volcanic rock cliffs\, and wildflowers throughout. Wildwood’s archetypal western look served as the set for The Rifleman\, Gunsmoke\, and Wagon Train back in the day\, as well as the movie Spartacus. \nWe will pass through various trails with bridges and tree canopies over approximately 5-6 miles with about a 1000’ elevation gain/loss. SUMMARY:Santa Rosa/Wildwood - Canyon Overlook\, Stagecoach Bluff\, and Lizard Rock Loop
DESCRIPTION:https://www.alltrails.com/explore/recording/fri-17-nov-2017-18-49–3?p=-1&sh=aoxfvb \nHello Fellow Hikers! \n(gonna be following kims route this was a hit the first time so join us and lets checkout her awesome hike) \nThis is a route that Kim created on her own back when she hiked this area every week. Attached is her AllTrails recording from the last time she did this hike. There will be an immediate incline to the top of the canyon. Then there will be a somewhat leveled off section with views of the canyon to the right and hills to the left. We will descend down towards the Paradise Falls area\, pass by a camp area\, and complete a few water crossings before starting our climb up Lizard Rock Trail back to the top of the canyon. After that\, it is all downhill back to our cars. \n* Note 1: There are no plans to stop at Paradise Falls\, however we can take a short break if we are making good time. This area (especially the falls) is often very crowded on weekends. * \n** Note 2: The trails near Paradise Falls are usually closed for 48 hours after heavy rainfall. I have an alternate route if the trail is closed. The distance should be about the same\, but the elevation gain will decrease. SUMMARY:Santa Rosa/Wildwood - Canyon Overlook\, Stagecoach Bluff\, and Lizard Rock Loop
DESCRIPTION:https://www.alltrails.com/explore/recording/fri-17-nov-2017-18-49–3?p=-1&sh=aoxfvb \nHello Fellow Hikers! \nCindysue asked me if I wanted to lead a hike since she can’t hike this day. Please take note of the earlier start time. \nThis is a route that I created on my own back when I hiked this area every week. I have attached my AllTrails recording from the last time I did this hike. The current forecast shows a storm starting on 3/20 and stopping on 3/23. I have an alternate route if the trail is closed. The distance should be about the same\, but the elevation gain will decrease. If it is still raining on Friday\, the hike will be postponed. ** \nLoop\nMiles – 5.41\nElevation Gain – 1529 ft\nRated – Moderate\nDogs allowed on leash\nParking – Free small dirt lot next to trailhead with overflow parking on Hill Canyon Rd closer towards Santa Rosa Rd \nAs of now there is no sweeper for this hike so please know if you feel you cannot finish for any reason please turn back early. \nPlease check back on hike info as rain\, heat advisory\, strong winds or low attendance may cause the hike to be rescheduled. \nWe will always follow Jim’s Golden Rules: \n\nHike your own hike\nPlease stop at every junction and split to wait for others to catch up\n\nPlease remember to bring all essentials you’ll need for a hike\n(water\, hat\, sunglasses\, hiking boot/hiking shoes poles\, snacks) \nLiability Disclaimer:\nAnd last….The Organizer\, Co Organizer\, Assistant Organizers and Event hosts in this group are not professional guides.
