DESCRIPTION:Hike #8 in the 2025 Saturday in the Santa Monica Mountains series is\na 9 miles and 1500 feet elevation gain hike from the Dead Horse Trailhead to the Musch Trail to Eagle Rock then to Cathedral Rock. \nMeet 8:00 am at the Dead Horse Trailhead parking lot on Entrada Rd (PCH to Topanga Canyon Boulevard.\, north 4 miles to Entrada Roado or 7 miles south off Ventura Freeway to Entrada Road\, lot is on left side of Entrada Road). NOTE THAT TOPANGA CANYON BLVD IS NOW OPEN AT PCH BUT IS ONLY ONE WAY FOR ABOUT A HALF MILE SO GIVE YOURSELF PLENTY OF TIME. Carpooling recommended as Dead Horse is a pay parking lot. \nBring water\, snacks\, sunscreen\, and a good attitude. DESCRIPTION:DESCRIPTION: We will take you away from the summer heat of SCV\, dropping ~20 degrees to enjoy alpine views while listening to the wind gently caress huge pines. \nStarting at the Nordic Hut lot / trailhead (8340′)\, first we summit Mt. Pinos (8847′) and then after descending some switchbacks\, we ascend again to summit Sawmill Mountain (8806′). We’ll decide as a group when we arrive at Sawmill whether to go on to Grouse Mountain (8673’) or enjoy a snack there before returning the same way. \nThe views from Mount Pinos / Sawmill Peak are beautiful\, including the patchwork quilt of agriculture in the San Joaquin Valley to the north\, the Tehachapi’s to the east\, and the Carrizo Plain and Temblor Mountains to the northwest. \nDETAILS: \n\nHike leader volunteer(s): Tim R.\nMeet: Mt. SUMMARY:Santa Barbara to Montecito Loop
DESCRIPTION:We start at Shalhoob’s in Santa Barbara and head up into the hills making a clockwise journey to Montecito via Mountain Drive. After enjoying those coastal views (If the sun is out!)\, we ride down towards the coast to Summerland Beach and then take a bike lane into Montecito Coast Village. We use a super-secret trail back to the bike path above Butterfly Beach\, which leads us back on Cabrillo Boulevard bike lanes and path to Shalhoobs.\nMake sure you bring along a spare inner tube. \nMEETUP LOCATION AND TIME: 9am. In front of Shalhoob’s restaurant at 220 Gray Ave\, Santa Barbara\, CA 93101\nPARKING FEE: Free street parking on E. Montecito Street or Gray Ave should be easy at our meetup time.\nROUTE\nDISTANCE: 27 miles\nELEVATION GAIN: 2700 feet\nLUNCH: Our plan is to eat lunch at Shalhoob’s at the end of the ride. SUMMARY:COLDSPRINGS TAVERN to East & West Camino Cielo Rd.
DESCRIPTION:This is an opportunity to take on East & West Camino Cielo Road to enjoy the stunning views overlooking Santa Barbara/Goleta and the Pacific Ocean that it offers. A lot of this route is shaded. We’ll start near the Cold Springs Tavern and make our way up to the Painted Cave. From there we’ll head back to West Camino Cielo Road to The Lizard’s Mouth Rock. From there we’ll head back to our cars and debrief at the Tavern. \nMake sure you have Tannus inserts\, green slime or FlatOut in your inner tubes to avoid flats. \nMEETUP LOCATION AND TIME:  On Stagecoach Road just north of The Coldsprings Tavern at 8:00am \nRESTROOMS: At the beginning and end of the ride. \nROUTE This will be our planned route. \nDISTANCE: 20 miles. \nELEVATION GAIN: 3200′ \nDURATION: 4+ hours \nBIKE TRAIL DESCRIPTION: Winding\, mostly shaded paved roads with very little traffic. \nDEBRIEFING: Lunch at the Cold Spring Tavern after the ride. \nTHE PACE: 6 MPH on up. \nLEVEL: Easy intermediate \nMY CELL # IS 805-358-5972
