But we are 11 mins from a Jack n Box/KFC in Ocotillo. \nOption to visit two Slot Canyons.\nCalcite Mines (Slots)\nSlot Canyons of Anza Borrego\nSunset @ Fonts Point\nNewbies welcome…come meet the group.\n(WEEKEND TRIP) \nDifficulty: Easy to Moderate 6-8 miles Round Trip and +/-500′ elevation gain loss. \nThis is a Car Camp (camp near your car) \nDescription:\nCalcite Mines\nCalcite Mine is just under 4 miles long and located near Borrego Springs\, California. The trail is great for hiking and normally takes 2-3 hours. You start off on the rough jeep trail down to a wash where you have the option to traverse through a slot canyon. Once to the mine area\, you can explore various rock formations and hike up to the tiptop for a fantastic view of the Salton Sea and the surrounding badlands. On the way back\, start out on the jeep track again and then venture the other way down the narrow canyon to meet back up with the original trail. This hike has a bit of everything! This 0.8-mike trek is capped off with a passage beneath a gravity-defying rock span. After setting up our tents we’ll take hike up to the Calcite Mines via the slots. \nThe hike should be around 6-8 miles with +/-500′ elevation gain loss.\nWe will be doing a little rock scrambling. \nWe can decide if we want to do Slot Canyons of Anza in the afternoon or Sunday Morning. \nSORRY NO PETS \nEquipment: \n• Hiking boots or trail hikers \n• Day pack for day hike \n• Layered clothing for a cool night and potentially warm day \n• Tent \n• Sleeping bag and pad \n• Cooking gear\, cup\, utensils \n• Ten essentials; map\, compass\, light\, extra food & water\, extra clothing\, fire starter\, knife\, \n• first aid kit\, sun protection & toilet paper \n• Chair \n• Anything that will make you comfortable. \nFood: \nBring the kitchen\, this will be a car camp. \nWe will have a bonfire\, so if anyone has wood…bring it. \n\nDISCLAIMER: Hike at your own risk.
