Departs San Pedro at 8:45am for an Avalon arrival at 10:00am. $42.\n🦬 Hike approximately 10.8 miles\, +2\,420’/-907′\, from the pier to Black Jack Campground (BJ05).\n📅 Thursday\, March 13\n🦬 Hike approximately 2.13 miles\, +587’/-510′\, from Black Jack Campground to Catalina Airport for goodies.\n🦬 Hike approximately 12.08 miles\, +1\,463’/-3\,034\, from Catalina Airport to Two Harbors (TH03) to enjoy a bundle of wood at our oceanfront campsite.\n📅 Friday\, March 14\n🦬 Hike approximately 14.6 miles\, +1\,972/-1\,972 from Two Harbors to Parsons Landing and back.\n🦬 Catalina Express from Two Harbors to San Pedro\, departing TH at 4:45pm\, landing at 7:15pm. $46. \n*** \nAssumption of Risk and Waiver of Liabilities \nAttendee acknowledges that the area over which this permit is granted is a wild lands area\, containing\, without limitation\, wild bison\, rattlesnakes\, and other wildlife\, rough terrain\, trails and roads\, and other conditions which are intrinsic to the environment and locale\, all of which may be dangerous and /or hazardous to life\, limb\, and property. \nBison are wild animals.\nBison are large wild animals that can cause serious injury and even death. They can accelerate quickly to 35 mph and jump over 6 feet. Never approach\, touch\, or attempt to feed bison. If you feel threatened\, identify an escape route. Place a large object between you and the bison (tree\, rock\, vehicle)\, and give the bison a path to avoid you. SUMMARY:Chilao to Mt. Hillyer via Horse Flats Trail
DESCRIPTION:DESCRIPTION: Let’s start the new year with a 6.8-mile loop near Mt. Wilson\, California. Generally considered a moderately challenging route. We will go clockwise around the loop. There are beautiful views and interesting rock formations along the way. We will end up on a paved road through Horse Flats campground where we will stop for a snack break as we loop back around to the trail. \nDETAILS:\n• Hike Organizer(s): Michele E.\n• Meet: Trailhead near small parking lot at 7:45 am\, departure at 8:00 am sharp (Jan 11).\n• Distance: Approximately 6.8 miles.\n• Elevation gain: Approximately 1\,181 feet.\n• Time: Approximately 3.5 hours hiking including a snack break.\n• Conditioning: You need to be in generally good physical condition.\n• Dogs: Dogs are allowed.\n• Restrooms: Are down the road from the trailhead\n• Adventure Pass: Required. \nIMPORTANT NOTES: We’ll hike at a brisk pace and ask everyone to stay with the group for a friendly and safe outing. Hiking may be hazardous due to uneven footing\, stream crossings\, exposures\, snakes\, bugs\, poison oak\, etc. Please be aware of your abilities and their limits. You are responsible for your own safety and well-being. This event may be cancelled due to inclement weather or other conditions. Based on your hiking during the last 90 days\, how would you score on the CHC Hike rating scale of one to five assuming a brisk pace? \nCHC HIKE RANKING SCALE: \n\nBeginner: 1-3 miles\, less than 500 feet elevation gain.\nBeginner/Intermediate: 1-7 miles\, less than 700 feet elevation gain.\nIntermediate: 5-10 miles\, 1000-2000 feet elevation gain.\nIntermediate/Advanced: 7-12 miles\, up to 3000 feet elevation gain.\nAdvanced: 10-17 miles\, 3000 feet or more elevation gain.\n\nTRAILHEAD LOCATION: From the Angeles Crest Highway\, take the upper Chilao Campground Road for about a quarter mile (you will pass the Visitor Center). The Horse Flats trailhead will be on your left. The parking area is very small but there are many places to park nearby.
