SUMMARY:Trans-Catalina Trail (Rocky's version)
DESCRIPTION:Trans-Catalina Trail (Rocky’s version) \nFor those who couldn’t get into Jennifers March trip\, this is a second chance to hike the Trans-Catalina Trail. Maximum of 6 people\, 4 nights 5 days. \nSchedule and itinerary: \nSaturday\, April 5th\nTake ferry San Pedro to Avalon\nIf you take an early ferry you can sightsee in Avalon during the day.\nMeet at the Hermit Gulch Campground (1.5 mi from Avalon) in the evening\nTrans-Catalina trailhead is at back of Hermit Gulch campground \nSunday\, April 6th\nAvalon to Black Jack Campground (11 mi)\nThere is an option to take the morning ferry on sunday and hike to Black Jack Sunday. Please let me know if you want to do this. \nMonday April 7th\nBlack Jack Campground to Little Harbor (8 mi)\nOption to stop at airport for lunch (open 8:30 am – 4 pm). \nTuesday April 8th\nLittle Harbor to Parsons Landing via the interior route (includes 1800’ climb out of Two Harbors) (12 mi)\nOption to stop for lunch in Two Harbors \nWednesday April 6\nParsons Landing back to Two Harbors via the coast route (8 mi)\nMust be in Two Harbors by 4:45 to get ferry\nTake ferry back to San Pedro \nCosts: To cover costs of the campsites and water at Parsons Landing we will collect about $100 per person (final cost to be determined). Participants will be asked to pay via Venmo before being moved off the waiting list and into the going list. Participants are expected to arrange their own transportation to Avalon and from Two Harbors; ferry tickets are estimated $42 each way. \nImportant notes: The Catalina Express Ferry prohibits any flammable items including camp stove fuel canisters and firewood. Fuel canisters are available for purchase in Avalon. Hermit Gulch is close enough to Avalon that you may have dinner in Avalon on Saturday if you want. \nAssumption of Risk and Waiver of Liabilities\nAttendee acknowledges that the area over which this permit is granted is a wild lands area\, containing\, without limitation\, wild bison\, rattlesnakes\, and other wildlife\, rough terrain\, trails and roads\, and other conditions which are intrinsic to the environment and locale\, all of which may be dangerous and /or hazardous to life\, limb\, and property.\nBison are wild animals.\nBison are large wild animals that can cause serious injury and even death. They can accelerate quickly to 35 mph and jump over 6 feet. Never approach\, touch\, or attempt to feed bison. If you feel threatened\, identify an escape route. Place a large object between you and the bison (tree\, rock\, vehicle)\, and give the bison a path to avoid you. Never box in a bison with people being both in front and behind it.\nAttendee voluntarily accepts and assumes all such risks of personal injury\, wrongful death\, or property damage.\nAttendee understands that this is a release of attendee’s right to sue. \nThis trip will be conducted at a relaxed pace with no more than 12 miles each day. Your trip leader walks slowly\, likes to stop and breathe and appreciate nature\, and take pictures. There will be time for side trips\, swimming in the ocean\, etc. (Note – the ocean is very cold this time of year). \nHike at your own risk. Be responsible for yourself and your safety. Make good decisions. With any trip\, things can change\, reservations can get lost\, the unexpected can happen. A go-with-the-flow attitude is always a good thing\, and most importantly\, let’s all have fun! This is an intermediate hike. Make sure you are in good enough physical shape for the distance\, elevation changes\, and terrain. The hike leaders in this group aren’t professional hike leaders. By signing up for these events\, you agree not to hold the Meetup organizers responsible for whatever happens to you on these events. The hiking group does not certify the expertise of the organizers\, the event or assistant organizers (hike leaders) and…We are NOT responsible for any possible losses or injuries.
