SUMMARY:Devil's Gateway
DESCRIPTION:DETAILS:\n· Hike leader volunteer(s): Dave.\n· Meet: Pothole Trailhead in Angeles National Forest.\n· Distance: ~ 12\,5 Miles total (out and back style)\n· Elevation gain: ~ 1\, 745\n· Time: Approximately 6-7 hours hiking including a couple of 15 minute breaks.\n· Conditioning: You’ll need to be in generally good physical condition.\n· Dogs: Are but not recommended\n· Hiking Poles – recommended\n· Restrooms – Trailhead.\n· Adventure Pass –Yes. \n\nMeet at trailhead at 07:45 AM leave at 08:00 AM\n\nDescription: A sign marks the trailhead. Plenty of room to park with restroom. The first 2 miles is a road walk where you can enjoy views of the lake and surrounding mountains. After we pass a ranch the road stops and the trail begins. Trail is only 18 inches wide and marked with ribbons at water crossings. Take your time crossing Aqua Blanca creek. Sometimes we will be next to the creek and other times we will be 100 ft or more above. Important to remember the trail is only 18 inches wide. We’ll stop for lunch at Devil’s Gateway then return the way we came. \nHike Leader Notes: This is a beautiful hike but the trail is brushy and narrow\, therefore ticks could be a concern. Poison Oak is an issue I suggest you were pants. Bring plenty of water. On my pre-hike I brought 2 liters of water and 1 liter of electrolyte\, ran out on the road back. Suggest you leave spare shoes and dry socks in your car. A recovery drink would be a good idea. Saw a few deer and bear tracks on the hike. Sometimes the trail is hard to find. Please remember I have hiked this part of the trail many times. \nIMPORTANT NOTES: This is not a speed hike. We’ll need to be careful crossing the many streams and staying on the trail. Do your best to stay with the group for a friendly and safe outing. Any guest that you wish to invite should join the Community Hiking Club (CHC) to participate. As always\, people may slip and fall\, encounter poison oak\, snakes\, etc. on this hike. This event may be cancelled due to inclement weather at the start of the hike. \nESSENTIAL GEAR:\nHiking boots and poles.\nClothing layers recommended.\nSnacks and 2+ liters of water and electrolytes or salt tablets.\nHat and sunscreen. \nAdditional Hiking and Survival Gear Recommendations (link) \nTHIS HIKE RANKING: Level 4\, Intermediate/Advanced (see chart below) Mainly for the water crossings\, narrow trail\, drop offs\, miles and elevation gain. \nCHC HIKE RANKING SCALE:\n1. SUMMARY:Green\, Green\, Green!! Half New Millennium Loop
DESCRIPTION:I’ve lived here 36 years and never have I seen these hills so green! Let’s hike a portion of the New Millennium Trail in Calabasas to enjoy the feeling of renewal! We will start at the Bark Park in Calabasas\, following a narrow single track trail up to the loop\, and turn right (counter clockwise) to do the back side of this trail\, through the green and wildflowers. We’ll climb up above the homes in the inside gate of The Oaks\, the high rent part of town\, to a lovely 360 degree vista point overlooking Mulholland Highway\, Calabasas Peak\, the ocean and Calabasas. Then we’ll turn around and do it all again the other direction. \nOut and back\, we’ll travel 8 miles and 1200′ gain. The trail gets quite narrow with soft brush and mustard…might wear long pants if you’re inclined. \nMeeting place is the Calabasas Bark Park at 4232 Las Virgenes Rd. From the 101\, head toward the ocean for 1.2 miles and turn left into the parking area. \nPlease do not leave anything of value in your car\, at this or any other trailhead. \nDISCLAIMER / RELEASE OF LIABILITY \nIMPORTANT\, PLEASE READ BELOW IN ITS ENTIRETY: \nThe hike host is a volunteer and not responsible for the group. Safety should be a priority for everyone in the group. Please treat this meet-up as hiking with a group of friends. If you become fatigued and unable to continue the hike\, it is expected you will advise the hike host of this and return to our starting point on your own. If you are able to proceed\, it is expected that you will maintain line of sight with other members of the group at all times and help to promote the group’s safety and fitness goals. \nOutdoor sports and other events we plan can be inherently dangerous and accidents may happen. By participating in any posted event\, you are taking responsibility for your own safety and well-being. The Weekday Trailblazers Meetup Group and its organizers are not trained leaders and we do not confirm the qualifications of any of its members to lead or participate in trips. All participants take full responsibility for their own actions. \nIf you choose to sign up for this or any Weekday Trailblazers Meetup event\, you are releasing the Weekday Trailblazers Meetup Group and its organizers from all liability in case of possible injuries. Your personal safety depends on your own judgment and experience. \n** Anyone under 18 yrs. old must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. \n** No Plus-Ones. By now\, you know the drill. \n**Friendly and leashed dogs are allowed on this hike
