SUMMARY:Saturdays in the Santa Monica Mountains 2024 #7 - King Gillette Ranch
DESCRIPTION:Hike #8 in the 2024 Saturday in the Santa Monica Mountains series\, a strenuous 12 mile\, 2000 gain out and back hike from Bark Park to King Gillette Ranch. We will start on the New Millenium Trail then take the Las Virgenes View Trail over to brunch at Gillette Ranch. \nBring water\, snacks\, sunscreen\, and a good attitude. Rain\, excessive heat\, or Red Flag alert cancels. \nMeet at 8:00 AM at Bark Park on Las Virgenes Road. It is about 1/2 mile south of the 101\, exiting at Las Virgenes. The park has a parking lot and is on the east side. If you are coming from PCH\, go all the way through on Malibu Canyon Road. The park is about 1/2 mile past Lost Hills from PCH. \nThis is a Back Country hike\, and a medical form is required. Please print it out and carry it with you. Copies of the form will be available to fill out at the trailhead as well. You can download the form here.

DESCRIPTION:PCT – WEEKEND BACKPACKING TRIP \nDays: 2 days\, 1 nights\nMilage: 23\nElevation Gain: 3\,642 ft\nMax Elevation: 4400′\nMin Elevation: 2300\nType of Trip: Backpacking\nDifficulty: Moderate/Strenuous\nLocation: ANZA BORREGO DESERT\nStarting Point: SCISSOR CROSSING\nEnding: BARREL SPRINGS \nDay 1:\nDistance 13.3 mi\nAscent: 4\,691 ft\nDescent: 3\,424 ft \nScissors Crossing (Hwy 78) to Trail Camp – approx. 14 miles\nStarting elevation: 2\,259 ft End: ~3\,400 ft Total elevation Gain/loss: 2\,405 ft We will hike northbound on the PCT about 14 miles and find a trailside campsite. We will most likely be dry camping on this hike as there no reliable water sources along this section of the trail. Plan to carry enough for both days. While there is at times a water cache near mi91\, it should not be relied upon and may not be maintained at the time of this trip.
