SUMMARY:Collins Valley Anza Borrego Overnight
DESCRIPTION:The road to Collins Valley washed out during the hurricane and is still closed to vehicles so this is a great opportunity to do an easy trip. There should still be plenty of flowers. I drove to the closed gate in October and a Subaru could easily make it\, not sure about a regular vehicle.\nLocation: End of open road \nRight now weather looks great. If it gets too hot I will cancel the trip.\nWeather \nFriday night: I’m going to camp out close to closed gate. \nSaturday:\nHike to Sheep Canyon Primitive campground 4mi 600ft Track\nThere was water in the lower part of Sheep Canyon in October. I am confident there is still water there. There has also been water in Indian Canyon every time I’ve been there.\nIn the afternoon explore Sheep Canyon (optional). See photos of Jerry Schad’s trip description. \nSunday:\nMaybe check out Cougar Canyon. Hike out. \nDISCLAIMER: Hike at your own risk. Be responsible for yourself and your safety. Make good decisions. With any trip\, things can change\, reservations can get lost\, the unexpected can happen. A go-with-the-flow attitude is always a good thing\, and most importantly\, let’s all have fun! This is an easy hike. Make sure you are in good enough physical shape for the distance\, elevation changes\, and terrain. The hike leaders in this group aren’t professional hike leaders. By signing up for these events\, you agree not to hold the Meetup organizers responsible for whatever happens to you on these events. The hiking group does not certify the expertise of the organizers\, the event or assistant organizers (hike leaders) and…We are NOT responsible for any possible losses or injuries.

SUMMARY:Jerry Schad's Indian Canyon / Borrego Palm Canyon Traverse
DESCRIPTION:Jerry Schad’s Indian Canyon / Borrego Palm Canyon Traverse (see photos for description!) \n“This is a grand tour of one of Anza-Borrego’s most remote\, rugged\, and beautiful areas. In the midsection of this trip\, you’ll pass through a pristine wilderness where the tracks of a mountain lion are far more common than the impressions of a lug-soled boot.”\nJerry Schad – Afoot and Afield: San Diego Country: A Comprehensive Hiking Guide \nLooks like one more cool weekend to hike in Anza Borrego!\nCheck out photos from a previous longer version of the trip (https://www.meetup.com/sandiegobackpackers/photos/30826299/) \nDifficulty: Strenuous Backpacking Trip\nType of hike: Rugged cross country hiking. Streams\, boulders\, dry falls\, brush\, loose rock\, bushwhacking etc. \nMAP / GPX: https://caltopo.com/m/B597 \nDay 0 (Friday)\nShuttle from Borrego Springs. Camp at Sheep Canyon \nDay 1 (Saturday)\nCamp in Borrego Palm Canyon \nDay 2 (Sunday)\nHike out of Borrego Palm Canyon and retrieve vehicle(s) \nDISCLAIMER: Hike at your own risk. Be responsible for yourself and your safety. Make good decisions. With any trip\, things can change\, reservations can get lost\, the unexpected can happen. A go-with-the-flow attitude is always a good thing\, and most importantly\, let’s all have fun! This is an advanced hike. SUMMARY:Bushwhacking Hellhole
DESCRIPTION:This is an exploratory trip. The plan is to hike up Hellhole Canyon and past Maidenhair Falls to the 30 foot waterfall described in Afoot and Afield. It must be pretty gnarly since the description appears to have been removed from the latest edition. There is a campsite described in the book. We may also check out Hellhole flats. On Sunday we’ll hike out to Culp Valley campground and back down the California Riding and Hiking trail.\nI don’t think parking is allowed at the trailhead so we’ll have to start in town (see location).\nNeedless to say this is a trip for people who enjoy bushwhacking and are comfortable scrambling over rocks\, trees\, vines\, etc. This is a advanced hike.
