If theres a lot of snow left the skeeters won’t be as bad as usual. \nItinerary: \n\nSat. June 15:\nmeet at trailhead at 8am\, hike up to explore lake 3\, then to lake 2 and set up camp. Explore\, fish\, relax.\nSun. June 16:\nhike about 3 miles to Davis Lake\, explore\, fish\, then hike 3 miles back to base camp.\nMon. SUMMARY:Thursday Intermediate Hike: Doin' the Big\, Fig Newton Canyon
DESCRIPTION:Assuming today’s forecast is correct\, we should be able to squeeze this one in on Thursday\, and enjoy the waterfalls that are flowing! We’re only going 5 miles\, but we’ll be going fairly quickly so we can gawk at the falls. \nFrom the Kanan Rd trailhead\, we’ll jump on the Backbone Trail for a cruise down into Newton Canyon. On our way there\, we’ll cross the creek\, pass under an oak canopy\, and come out into an opening. At the opening\, look toward the sandstone formations in the distance\, and we may see a flow of water from Upper Newton Falls. \nOnce we hit the fire road we will turn around for a total of 5 miles with about 900’+ total elevation gain. \nhttps://www.meetup.com/The-Weekday-Trailblazers/about/\nRestrictions apply for your safety and ours: \nDon’t show up unless you’re on the “Attending” list\nUnregistered or waitlisted will be turned away\nNo “Plus Ones” on this hike\nPlan on completing the entire hike or please find an alternative hike that better suits your hiking level.\nNo dogs allowed. \nDirections: \nExit 101\, then go south (toward beaches) on Kanan Road about 8 miles to just before the third tunnel (T1). The parking lot is on the right. \nFrom Pacific Coast Highway\, go north on Kanan Dume Road about 4 miles and make a left turn into the parking lot immediately after going through the first tunnel. \nParking is free. \nBring sunscreen\, plenty of water\, and wear sturdy shoes and a sun hat.
