SUMMARY:Devils Chair Trail
DESCRIPTION:DESCRIPTION: From AllTrails… The Devil’s Punchbowl is a point where 2 faults collide\, creating upwards jutting vertical walls as high as 300 feet. It is a spectacular setting\, with the high desert spreading out on one side\, and the pine-covered Angeles National Forest on the other. The hike takes you along the mostly shaded rim of the Punchbowl\, to the dramatic Devil’s Chair\, a breathtaking overlook with 360-degree views of the geologic formations. A rainbow of rock surrounds the Devil’s Chair with pink-streaked chalk white cliffs\, undulating tan crags\, chocolate brown slabs\, and green-gray ledges. This\, combined with the green of the mountains and the blue sky\, makes for a memorable visual. \nHikers with extra energy may want to also take the 1mile loop trail\, which drops down into the punchbowl amongst the stunning rock formations. \nDETAILS: \n\nHike Organizer(s): Tim R.\nMeet: Devils Chair Trailhead at 7:45 am\, departure at 8:00 am sharp (Saturday\, Jan 18).\nDistance: Approximately 7.3 miles.\nElevation gain: Approximately 1\,463 feet.\nTime: Approximately 3.5 hours hiking including a snack break.\nConditioning: You need to be in generally good physical condition.\nDogs: Dogs are allowed.\nRestrooms: Yes.\nAdventure Pass: No.\n\nIMPORTANT NOTES: We’ll hike at a brisk pace and ask everyone to stay with the group for a friendly and safe outing. DESCRIPTION:Learn New Skills-Make New Friends-Experience New Adventure\nDetails\nInformational Posting Only – See Website at www.wildernesstravelcourse.org\nINFORMATIONAL POSTING ONLY\nwww.wildernesstravelcourse.org\nDear Group Members\, particularly the recent swell of new\, never-been-backpacking-before-but-want-to-start members: There is a great Sierra Club opportunity that is about to begin….an opportunity that only happens one time each year and it is one of the best outdoor learning experiences the Sierra Club has to offer. This is the Angeles Chapter Wilderness Travel Course (WTC). Some of you have taken the course and are now leaders and/or knowledgeable hikers. For those of you who have not\, enrollment in WTC is something you should consider now. The Wilderness Travel Course helps build outdoor skills so hikers can be safe in the backcountry. The course runs for ten weeks and includes four field trips (two one day and two weekend outings). Students learn map and compass navigation skills for competently hiking off-trail\, snow travel\, rock scrambling techniques\, first aid\, nutrition and lots more. The course is followed by unforgettable experience backpacking trips most of which take place in the High Sierra\, Sequoia and Yosemite during the summer months.\nWTC moves you from being a day hiker to a more serious adventurer.
